I feel like this is gonna be another songs thats gonna be really underrated and would become one of the hidden gems of taylor- like safe and sound and beautiful ghosts. I love the haunting misty vibes of the song

Safe and Sound is structured around a major key, as are all of Taylor's songs, but she uses a lot of minors in it too, which gives it that haunting, lonely sound. Carolina is the first TS song structured around a minor key.

People complaining about how the song is too slow....it's a song for a murder mystery adaptation, not the Elvis movie. I do agree it's not one of her apexes in the folklore/evermore era, but I LOVE how the song encapsulates parts I and II of the book so succinctly.

FUN FACT: she recorded this in one take with instruments from the 1950's to make sure it sounded like it could be from that time period.

honestly, I was a little underwhelmed because i was waiting on a buildup to a bridge and it ended up feeling like a 3rd verse and it was over. don't get me wrong, it's a BEAUTIFUL song. it gave me vibes of the old music like Ella Fitzgerald and the lovely vocals like Lana Del Rey but i think she could have smashed that harder. I hope TS10 has this vibe!

I knew that this would be good, but I was not expecting it to be THAT good. It just sounds like the book, the lyrics are bewitching, and the vibe and production is just the perfect atmosphere for the story. Miss swift never disappoints.

I think Reese Witherspoon said in an interview for the movie that Taylor was inspired to write a song based on the book during the making of her Folklore album. No wonder it seemed to fit so perfectly with the aesthetic of that album too! 🥰

Yeees, Caitlin, about the connection to Hunger Games! I started listen to Carolina and just thirty seconds in and I immediately related the song to the sound of what the Covey sounds from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the spin-off to Hunger Games, at least what I think they’d sound like.
I don’t know if you read the book but the Covey is a music group which Lucy Gray (one of the characters) is the lead singer, and I always imagined the aesthetic and sound of the Covey being similar to folklore era.
There’s a film adaptation in production and I don’t know why but I have a deep feeling that Taylor’s going to be in the soundtrack. I really hope she’ll be!!!

The song is really beautiful and I really like it. I didn't expect Taylor to be releasing it already I thought they were going to wait until the movie release on July 15. Carolina reminds me and sounds a lot like folklore/evermore. Love it when Taylor drops music out of surprise. I can't wait for more re-recordings.
