Turning a non-linear equation into a linear one.

Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

Why do you do multiply the whole thing by x? Wouldn't it just be applied to the x?

There is nothing wrong finishing your solution with all variable staying to the right. Student tend to think that variable have to stay only to the left side, this misinterpretation is due to teacher practice which implicitly state that is wrong to keep a variable to the left side

Careful some student may think every time they find the value of x by verifying the equation they should always end up to x = x ; in fact this is just an exception here the verification of the equality could end up to the a value different of the value of x

The reason x * -10/x = -10, is because it becomes -10x over x. He failed to mention that this cancels the x, leaving the -10 behind.

why is x times -10/x = -10 and not -10x/x

0:14 I tried doing it on my own and I did the work completely different from you and got the same answer.

Absolutely horrible, you failed to explain why do certain things and provide sufficient examples, yeah sure the ones you showed us make sense but what about other equations with other variables, you went too fast and too sloppy, i just went to another website that actually explained why thing are the way they are, you need to add more videos to this sections, as you can see in the comment section there are questions remaining, i felt i was left with too many questions.
