In New Zealand, we have a rare bird named the Takahe that went extinct for fifty years until they were discovered in the mountains. Their population is around 400 today

There is a type of gecko called a crested gecko and for over 100 years up until the mid 90s we thought they were extinct. We then found them on a chain of islands called New Caledonia. Since then they have been domesticated, but the wild population of them is still endangered which sucks. (I actually have one of them and they are very cute lol)
