How to fit a miniature circuit breaker (MCB) or RCBO to a busbar in a consumer unit (fuse box). Wylex have no miss busbar connections and quick release technology built into their circuit breakers, RCBO's and AFDD’s. In this video I demonstrate how to fit a Wylex miniature circuit breaker and then show how easy it is to remove it from the busbar.

Back in 2015 I did a "four week wonder" course after being made redundant. It dawned on me near the end that I didn't know how to fit MCBs, so I asked to be shown. I think it should be one of the first things you do in these mock up booths, how to build a consumer unit and how all the components work together. I did pass all my exams but didn't go into the trade, regret it now actually.

Lovely video as ever. The no miss system is long overdue and has been on precision lab equipment and instrumentation for years to ensure correct connection.

Nice and handy.Wish we had that in Europe. Now we always must tickle with a screwdriver to get it released.. Before that we must unscrew the TWO busbars!!

Great kit everything we use is wylex .
I do EICR's for a large housing association (In house).
Been full time electrician 28 years.
The amount of MCB's/RCBO's that have missed the busbar and melted from arcing I've found is scary.
And the daily diy wiring I find no you do not fit a 50A breaker to a 6mm for a shower ffs and it was 101 install method!

Short and to the point. Great video. Glad the power was off before you started. 😏

Excellent! Thanks for this. It is worth noting that adding and removing some breakers to get them to pull out or click in one needs to open up the bus bar screw not just a few turns but fully to give a bit of 'wiggle room'!

I like that, should be a standard design for all models.

Wylex rcbos are nice and going in the right direction. Next up would be a double pole busbar and no horrid fly leads.

Hi. On a regular consumer unit, is everything to the left of an RCD automatically backing up all MCB’s, including new MCBs that go into any free slots? We recently had an electric shower installed from scratch and the electrician put in a MCB, not an RCD. Cheers.

Can you find MCB in the latest edition of BS7671??? 🧐

What if we want to connect a wire to the same contact where the busbar contact sits? Ferrule doesn’t fit nicely because of the plastic on the busbar.

Hello just watched the video as I need to change one of the mcb’s within my consumer unit. I have no idea about electrics but I know I could easily renew the mcb. My only question is do I need to cut power to the consumer unit so I don’t blow myself through the ceiling? if so how is that done? Any advice would be very appreciated. Many thanks..

Hi, if I turn off the ELCB, will there still be electric current flowing through the bus bar? I'm planning to replace one of my faulty circuit breaker.

Do you need the power feeding the cu off? I don't have a switch from the meter to the cu.

Please i want to ask you this question; what's the right order in which you should arrange your circuit breaker in your consumer unit. should it be from the lowest breaker to the highest or highest breaker to the lowest and why... Thanks
