Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts - Review

I was really looking forward to returning to Hogwarts after all these years. Sure, we have seen it in the Fantastic Beasts movies but there is something truly magical about being back with the original cast in their iconic locations. Unfortunately a good chunk of actors didn't come back for the reunion and obviously the absence of J.K. Rowling is notable (outside some 2019 footage). None of this thankfully really retracts from the overall experience. The 3 lead children; Harry, Hermione and Ron are back and just as charming as ever before. Plus we get some of the villains, teachers and friends from the Harry Potter franchise. Return to Hogwarts is almost a quasi-documentary of sorts. Blending new interviews with behind-the-scenes footage and clips from the 8 films. Even the directors came back to talk about some of their fondest memories on set. My family and I had a great time watching the cast reflect on their history with Harry Potter and this is a must-watch for fans of the Harry Potter franchise!

Just to clarify the J.K. Rowling comments in the video.
1 - I'm not calling her a transphobe
2 - I was stating that she is against the trans community (in their eyes) based on her beliefs/vs theirs
3 - I'm very ignorant on trans issues or J.K's reasons for constantly speaking about it
4 - I was just trying to inform viewers as to why she wasn't in the movie

I actually cried for the entire time and the ending had me sobbing. I was not expecting to be so emotional but when i saw the actors i couldn't keep it together . It was so wonderfully emotional for me.

I thought it was good but I was hoping for more of them together. It seems like they were all still separated and Daniel did not interact with the other cast as much. I guess it was because of scheduling reasons and covid but I was still a bit disappointed because of it. It was all more individual interviews.

Didnt it start with her commenting on an article that referred to "people who menstruate" instead of saying "women"

Definitely interested to check this out... right after I rewatch all 8 movies. I only saw them a few years ago and don't quite have the reverence for them yet I know I likely will once I just fully commit to the experience, haha.

Love hearing you talk about stuff you love with such sincerity and genuine appreciation - it's nice! (And increasingly rare these days)

Having read the tweets and comments that JK made about trans people, im glad to say that she is not transphobic. She has shown support about the community but her views on subjects like pronouns and non binary people are just different. She just doesn't believe they should exist. There is nothing wrong with that w ecan't all have the same opinions. People nowadays are extremely sensitive and i do not agree with the hate they choose to show. If u are fighting hate with what u think hate is or cuz someone else has a dif opinion, well its not JK's fault. I think the situation surrounding the matter is ludicrous AT BEST.

I saw Harry Potter 1 in school and thought it was lame. I skipped 2 and 3. I went to see 4 in theaters cause I wanted to hang out with a girl I liked. She invited the guy she liked to come along. I blame JK Rowling for this.

It's a strange hill for the studio to die on to not invite the creator of the ip because she said one thing you didn't like.

JK Rowling just got sick of woke morons constantly berating her for answers about why this character wasn't gay...or why this character wasn't written to shore up inclusion for a gender identity pronoun. The world is too sensitive. Her job isn't too make every single distinction feel good about themselves. That's the hate.

I enjoyed this special so much that I immediately began another re-watch of these films afterward. The books are wonderful, and the film franchise is one of the greatest achievements in film history (pre-Fantastic Beasts). I love each film, and it was heartwarming seeing these actors seeming to be at good places in their lives and well-adjusted adults. It was the comfort food that was needed to open 2022. And for all the JKR controversy, I'm glad they at least included some recent footage of her talking about the series.

It was a really great program, but could have been that much better with JKR. Also, I think Evanna Lynch deserved more screen time in this special.

I absolutely loved the reunion. It is just what I needed. I loved the set up where it was a panel, it wasn't like an interview it was a conversation with different cast members. Reminiscing. It was beautiful. I cried several times, and then was on the verge of tears during a lot of it.

What makes it harder is that this will never happen again. Sure we have cursed child and fantastic beasts, but they just don't hold that same kind of magic.

My fav part of this review was Adam saying maybe J. K can fix the Fantastic Beasts movies lol

I loved the ending the most. I didn't read or watch Harry Potter growing up so this showed me how much I was missing out.

that reunion was one of the best things of this year already, it made me proud of being a potter fan and thankful of being able to take in the franchise's impact on me and others.im currently rewatching them all.

I always felt a little bad that I never got that into Harry Potter. I don't dislike it by any means, I felt it was fine. For whatever reason, I just didn't get into it. I may have been to old by the time it came out or maybe I just 'missed the boat.' It is great that you enjoyed it with your family and I hope fans loved it as well. I wish I was really into it and may other properties, but I guess you can't be into everything. Thanks for informing me about Rowling. It is great the main three came back with love for the property. The kid in Boyhood sort of grew up in the way your are referring, but yes it is beyond rare.

In no way did jk attack or say anything negative about the trans community, so no you do not know what you're talking about
