I already knew that I was fascinated by vintage “homemaker” anything, especially those vintage videos of kitchen gadgets and appliances (they sometimes look far cooler and ahead of their time than anything I’ve ever had in my kitchen). During WW2, hairstyles were named after air combat maneuvers to increase morale. The barrel roll is named after “the barrel roll attack” which is an offensive position used in air combat. Other examples are the victory rolls and the suicide rolls. ➰✈️

I really like the idea of braiding your hair before putting it up in a scarf! I usually just pile my hair up and bobby pin the heck out of it, but braiding it seems like a better idea! Btw you are correct, the front roll is called a barrel roll. A suicide roll is a little different, it is when you turn the curl away from your face and pin it flat to the side of your head (sort of like the first style you did with the pin curl, just without the swoop). I also have no idea why it started being called that though.
