Harris Decries Atlanta Shooting: 'No One Should Be Silent in the Face of Hate'

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke out about the massage parlor shootings in Atlanta that killed eight people Tuesday, calling the attack "tragic," and saying the nation grieves for the loss of the victims.
Harris made the comments as she began a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin on St. Patrick's Day.
While Georgia authorities say it is too early to determine whether the shootings were racially motivated, Harris said she wanted to be clear to the Asican-American community "that we stand with you and understand how this has frightened and shocked and outraged all people."
Harris said the administration speaks out "in solidarity with them" and acknowledges "that none of us should ever be silent in the face of any form of hate."
Officials said they are still investigating whether the deaths were hate crimes amid concerns over a wave of attacks on Asian Americans. Six of the victims were Asian and seven were women.
Authorities say the suspect, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long, said he possibly had a sex addiction.
