The "ditch digger" is called a coal shovel in these parts.  I've found that the metal edge on the plastic shovels makes them nearly impossible to push, so I drill out the rivets and remove it.  It makes shoveling a BREEZE!  Sure, the shovel wears out faster, but I still get a 3-5 years+ out of them.  I use the ergo shovel and LOVE it.  I also have a small push shovel for the lighter stuff, but I use my John Deere 832 Snowblower for the big stuff.

It’s funny how all the wording is clearly geared towards men. Women have to shovel too (I’m on Minnesota so I’m shoveling quite often).

Honestly, I shovel snow profesionally. And the best type of shovel is just a simple, mostly flat bladed shovel withOUT the metal part on the edge of the blade. You can cut snow, scrape it, and do whatever you really need to. It's lightweight and you can really go all day. Just my 2 cents. Thank you and let em know EZ Clap.

Here in Minnesota you need 3 shovels. A pusher to move the snow to the side of the driveway, a scoop to toss the snow from the side of the driveway over the snowbank, and a friend with a plow. Kind of sad that Consumer Reports didn't even review the most efficient shovel which is the pusher but did review the gimmicky hand plow.

I switched to the Ditch Digger, with a heavy duty plastic scoop, after retiring my trusty Renaissance Man and I have to say, I’m happy with the move. The shorter handle is NOT necessarily a bad thing, even at a height of 6’.

Yeah about that kid next door. First off the kids of my generation from 50 years ago were WAY tougher. When it snowed all you had to do was open your front door and in no time kids with shovels would be walking by just looking for work. You could get kids to shovel your long driveway, walkway and stairs for short money. Sometimes they would even ring your doorbell asking if they could shovel you out. When it snows nowadays I don't see a kid in sight. Of course I was a kid too so we would tell them thanks we are all set. The further back in time you go the tougher those kids were. I saw a group of kids walk by the other day and they ALL were looking down at their phones not even talking to one another.

The curved handle one can push the snow and due to it's angle, you can also use your foot to lift it and toss it using all of your strongest muscle...the leg.

The decaf remade model on eBay for 113$ is awsome for do it yourself driveways

Nothing beat the old red aluminum scrapers.

The metal strip on the plastic shovels do help in chopping through compact snow and ice.

Next time please include some snow pushers or sleigh shovels to help us save our backs.
Thanks.

#1 is a grain shovel.  You're not going to dig any ditches with that flimsy aluminum shovel head.  But, it does make a great snow shovel.

That curved handled shovels might be easier on the back, but bounce off of any slightly hardened snow. Very frustrating to use. The straight shafted, big scoped shovels are best. JMHO.

Avoid steel blades on plastic shovels. They get hooked on everything.

I like my curved handle shovel, it's easier on the back.

a little too late with the video, would of made a lot more sense and be more effective if this was released at the beginning of winter, but that's my 2cents, great video.

The Hipster is the worst snow shovel ever created!  I can't believe they'd even include it on a list!
