Remember, this is only the engine of the M1. The computer chip also has several other components, including the transmission, fuel tank, and coolant systems. Amazing how they can get all that inside such a thin laptop

It’s a heat exchanger that preheats combustion air usually after it’s already been compressed.

I think the coolest feature is that the outer shell can open and close instantly so that we can see inside.

It’s amazing to think all of this goes on inside a 2020 MacBook Air. Incredible what Apple achieved squeezing this into such a thin laptop.

That engine gets so hot. You could crank it up at 7 AM in the morning for 30 minutes, shut it down and it’s 6 o’clock in the evening. It would still be hot enough to heat your MRE. I know because we used to do this when we worked on them and desert storm.

In aircraft this type of engines is called "Free rotating shaft" turbine. Typically used on helicopters.

Just a curious question. Why not use a diesel electric motor? I’m by no means an engineer and have no clue what goes into the designing such a thing. If we can scale down jet engines to move a tank, why not a diesel electric?
