i hope you enjoy rebecca!! I actually watched the original 1940 film in an english class and then read the book later. it was a 5 star read, super ominous and atmospheric! i haven't watched the 2020 film but I've heard that it's not great in comparison with the book

Rebecca is one of my favorite books ever! I will hazard a guess and say you probably won't care for the main character too much, but the atmosphere makes up for that and it's perfect for fall. I'm planning to read My Best Friend's Exorcism and Hollow Kingdom at least this month.

Rebecca came out in 1938, so that puts it into a modern-ish classic gothic category. There are older adaptations too if you end up liking the story - Hitchcock did one!

I’m a huge wimp when it comes to horror or anything even remotely scary but I’ve been reading Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo and it’s very much dark academia meets southern gothic vibes. There is some sort of phantom haunting a grieving graduate student. I’m not really sure what it’s all about yet but I’m really digging it so far!
