A collaboration between documentary filmmaker Neil Halloran and Nobel Peace Prize - Research and Information, this short data-driven film simulates a nuclear blast in a major city in order to tally the estimated deaths that would result. Using data from leading researchers and highlighting present day technology developments, the film illustrates the very real danger nuclear weapons still pose to humanity and life on Earth.

Frightening. The lucky ones, of those affected, would be the one's who were vaporized in a millionth of a second...

How has no one mentioned the visuals? The renders are jaw dropping, pure eye candy. I had to pause just to write this. So clean, detailed and simple. Incredible.

Its both impressive and also terrifying to realise how we came from throwing pointy sticks between us to unleash such a degree of destruction not even we could imagine in our darkest dreams...

Who else thought he was gonna drop egg yoke on a tiny city

Beautiful and well-made video for such a terrifying yet possible reality. The visuals that showcased the casualities on the citizens made me shiver; it's horrifying to even think about that.

Note: The strongest ever tested bomb was 80 times stronger than in this simulation.

This would never happen in the USA, we don't use kilometers.

I'm in a major city and probably within the 2 kilometer radius of the center and I think in such a scenario I'd really not want to be in the 2% of survivers during impact (small chance is still a chance). Depending on how much time I'd have until impact (if whatever bomb that would've been used was noticed from a distance) I'd either drive to ground 0 to be instantly vaporized or, if I have more time, drive as faar away as possible. I really hope something like this never happens

Why can’t our leaders just throw hands so they’re the only casualties

This is the kind of thing that needs to be shown when history classes talk about the nukes drop on Hiroshima. It took me and many other classmates some outside research to realize how devastating and horrific they were and I think that needs to be shown when they are discussed.

i love the animation style you chose for this video! it looks kind of like a huge toy city with toy cars and buildings. also, the tiny people remind me of those plastic soldier toys.

If a nuclear war breaks out, I'm going to the center of a large city to ensure I get vaporized instantly in the blast. I'd rather vaporized instantly before my body can even sense pain than die of extremely painful radiation poisoning.

Sure, it looks horrifying, but as I learned in school, all one needs to do to survive a nuclear explosion is to duck and cover under a desk.

I've never seen something so devastating explained in such a calm way

Oppenheimer: “Albert, when I came to you with those calculations, we thought we might start a chain reaction that would destroy the entire world.”

Einstein: “I remember it well. What about it?”

Oppenheimer: *“I believe we did.”*

The scariest part about nukes is the people who are killed in the initial strike are the lucky ones cause radiation poisning is one of the worst ways to die
