I think the first red flag about Platt was how he recommended the church send bunches of money to the SBC before he was even hired to be the pastor there.

David Platt sounds like a politician when answering a question which basically is not answering.

I attended MBC "Off and On " my 38 year tenure in DC area. Lon's Teaching was major reason I attended. Left in 2010 for Temple Baptist in Herndon VA ( More Traditional Standards in Music and weekly Church wide prayers meetings) . Now retired to Knoxville TN and attend a small faithful Baptist. As far as SBC, many faithful believers left SBC in 1940s ( Leaders like J Frank Norris, John R Rice.. ) but there was a resurgence of some ( Thomas Road, Lynchburg VA, Late Jerry Falwell ) returning to SBC . Believers in Christ need to prayerfully discern Where to give the LORD's Money so that apostasy cannot flourish .

Platt has done much damage to the church especially young people. He is a wolf!

Thanks for the TL;DR. I watched about 2 minutes before I realized they needed a different editor, someone removed from the situation, to pare it down considerably.

I think you missed the point regarding the people complaining about their small groups being deleted. It wasn't just that their feelings were hurt. It's that without these groups, where was the money that was supporting them going? It wasn't like the groups were gone, but this new ministry was being funded that was arguably more effective. The people didn't see where the money was going. They didn't like that, and that's completely understandable. This was laying foundation for the financial funny business that would become known later on.

Also, when the pastor was answering that question from a congregant about SBC affiliation, he looked and sounded JUST like a shifty politician trying to answer a simple question without actually answering the question. That was disgusting to watch.

I met a woman back in 2018 here in Alabama (my home state) who was Reformed Baptist, and even though I was Presbyterian at the time we had a lot in common and became friends. She told me her former pastor was David Platt and explained how she really loved that guy. She was really upset when he left the church he pastored in Birmingham, Alabama. I had never heard of him. So when the 2020 election rolled around she came out on FB supporting Joe Biden and I began to question her about that. She turned out to be a full blown leftist and Trump hater while calling herself a Christian. So her infatuation with David Platt made sense after I looked into him.

Lon’s radio ministry has gone national.

That's the most "politician" answer I've heard in many years...and we're in an election season.

Isn't David Platt still essentially the guy in charge at McLean Bible Church? I wonder if anybody knows how much of the preaching he has given over to Torch Em Daydreams Guy.

Lon's radio spots, "Not a Sermon, jut a thought", are back on national radio, especially WMAL. Lon is the best. His youtube channel is doing well. GOD Bless

Everyone wants to lead church. No one wants to embrace the fellowship of Christ's sufferings that go with leading God's people. The Pauline pattern has been all but abandoned. The Pauline pattern is the very basis for church among the gentiles.

His facials expressions with the the "southern baptist affiliation" scenario says it all.

It should be noted that David Platt is still a Council Member of The Gospel Coalition and a speaker at their upcoming conference TGC25 Alive Together.

David has crazy eyes. I’ve never been able to get beyond about five minutes of his preaching. The theatrics are over the top.

Baptist polity is great as long as congregants agree with lead pastor and elder board. Walked through something eerily similar and tore our church apart. Were there extra SBC $$ and affiliation incentives around that timeframe? We were also pushed toward SBC affiliation and some odd growth programs. 🤔

I am halfway through it right now.

I genuinely thought Platt was just really bad at his job and that was the problem. He just did what everyone else was doing to get by and relied on his celebrity. Maybe hire a few friends to do the parts he's bad at.

Then they said, "He cut the special needs kids ministry!"

Then I realized that dude is just evil.

We've got to cut the special kids class so we can throw more money at my pocket, I mean pet project.
