Yes, it gets rid of the issue, but you switched to Mate instead of using Cinnamon. That is a solution technically speaking, but several users would tell you that Cinnamon is a better desktop environment than Mate hence you gain on one side, but lose on the other. It sounds like a compromise rather than a solution.

Great tip, my computer is pretty low power and just could NOT handle software rendering mode at all. Switched over to MATE and we're back in business! Thanks!

Changed the graphics controller in set up and that did it for way

Hi! When you were logging in again, it appears that you could have chosen the "cinnamon" option up higher in the list, as well as the "mate" that you selected. Have you tried that?

This doesn't solve your problem it just switches you to a different environment which is not so heavy on graphics. your problem is still there just not pronounced as much. you cured the symptom not the disease

Not the answer I'm looking for. I am not running in software rendering mode. How do I run in software rendering mode(compatibility) from shell?

I have this problem showing but im stuck on the Guest session please help i cant log in to my admin account i changed drivers to the recommended setting and now i cant log in

Not to bash Mate, but switching from Cinnamon to Mate is NOT A SOLUTION. It's a WORKAROUND.
