I really am only getting the remarkable 2 for the note taking. I go through a lot of paper writing notes for college. So an e-ink that feels like paper is all I really want. I have a tv, a computer, a smart phone, and an e-reader, also a tablet. So spending the money on the remarkable 2 will be my "fancy" for me writing item. I don't need an all in one.

I’m an ancient Brit, a retired pastor. I began my Tech journey in 1981 playing with a ZX81. I’ve owned an iPad Pro (big one), I have an iPad, a Surface Pro, a Fire HD tablet, and a Remarkable 1. The Remarkable is my go to device now for documents, sermon creation, preaching in the pulpit, reading PDF materials. It’s very portable. It’s light. It’s easy on my old eyes. Page turning when I’m preaching is simple. I just love it for writing on (and I do own an Apple Pencil). So, in short, I’m eagerly awaiting Remarkable 2 although, sadly, I’m in batch 7. Thanks for a helpful channel.

I'm considering bying the Remarkable 2. I'm a student, and I always feel like, when I take notes I remember everything much better when I psysically write stuff down instead of typing. I can never recall what I typed, but my brain remembers what I write.
Today I use a pocketbook ereader for books, because I like the visual of it. It feels more like a book, and even if it's slow, it's still very pleasant to look at, compared to all the blue screen divices out there.
I also don't get destracted with my ereader. I can allow myself to focus only on the matter at hand and not everything else.
I really consider getting the Remarkable 2, because for me, I believe that it would help me in so many ways with my studying.
(sorry if something is not spelled right, or if the comma is confusing. I'm from Denmark and there might be some errors due to language barriers)

I use it for these reasons:
1- I am a horrible typist
2- The actual writing experience is excellent. iPad doesn’t come close
3- I can easily edit daily notes and create the next day note w/o rewriting the whole note
4- Can organize and archive the notes for quick review and retrieval
5- lt’s a note book. Period. Use it for notes when reading or viewing on the IPad.

Well, that’s my 2 cents worth

To save your eyesight, and eliminate distracting notifications and temptation to surf the web. Web can be a HUUUGE time waster.

Lawyer here. I use/d an iPad Pro w iPencil for two years now to make notes in meetings and review contract drafts and documents or just when brainstorming ideas. My eyes are always getting tired after reading/writing for more than 30 mins.
Had a client who showed up with a reMarkable and showed me the device and I was instantly hooked and ordered a rM 2 the next week. I’m really looking forward to having my notes and thoughts all in one place.

I don't have an e-ink device YET but have ordered a reMarkab2 (based on large part to your recommendation JD). I was searching for a way to declutter my desk, which is often covered in notebooks, note pads and sticky notes, and I wanted an electronic notetaker. I am an optometrist and when I am in my private office between patients, I need to write down to-do lists, business ideas, take notes on phone calls, etc. A computer or tablet are not conducive to those things. I want a place to take handwritten notes and keep them organized. In addition, continuing education speakers distribute their Power Point lectures before the talk but the only way to take notes directly on them is to print them on paper, until now. The reMarkable will allow me to download the presentations and follow the lectue, talking notes directly on the presentation slide. I can't wait!

I can study outside with the remarkable. Reading over 2+ hour is comfortable on remarkable vs iPad. Tried writing on iPad Pro but even with paper like is no where near remarkable. Keep all the loose leaf paper and notes in one place that accessible on phone. iPad is great and probably what most people should go there first. The notability app is powerful. But if you can’t stand reading and writing iPad then consider remarkable. This coming from a person who has iPad Pro, two in one laptop and remarkable.

I'm a great fan of the remarkable. I've used the remarkable 1 for over a year now and i love it. The two pieces of gear that save me from today's distraction world are my remarkable and my noice cancelling sony headset. With those two i can easy get into my focus flow and get creative and work done. Today i've recieved my remarkable 2 and it's just great. I also have an ipad, but that is just for 'consumption' (social media, games, youtube, etc) nothing more. Nothing of real value. My top reasons to choose for the remarkable: 1) no distractions 2) no use of paper 3) no (back) light so it is quiet to my eyes. 4) super pratical. hunderds of pieces of paper always with you. :)

I agree with your points. Here are my thoughts: (Sorry for the long comment! )
a) It is distraction-free. Just the presence of my phone is enough sometimes to check for notifications and forget what I was actually doing.
b) I think i type and write pretty fast but when I write, I tend to remember everything I write to an extent I can remember which page and which paragraph.
c) I have really sensitive eyes and migraine, I can feel the stress on them when I watch TV or anything on my PCs. When I read the kindle, I don't feel this stress at all.
d) I spend a lot on textbooks and notebooks almost more than what I paid for the RM2. Although I can get the PDFs and read it on my PC, I do not retain anything that I read on my PCs (this might just be me though). It also reduces the clutter and load that I have to carry to class every day.
e) It is a one-stop solution for me. My textbooks, notebooks, planners, and everything else in one tablet, and I only need to carry this to school.
All this being said, it is not for everyone. Especially not for those who do not have a habit of writing or organizing.
I also love to have a lot of colors in my notes. So my notebooks are written in different colored pens. I hope sometime in the future they can come up with the technology that will support colorful E ink without the use of pixels. I think that would be a game-changer.

1) mobility of the all of the writing one does 2) no distraction writing 3) no glare 4) writing to type 5) reading pdf(s)/e-books and taking notes 6) the upcoming browser - to make downloads of reading stuffs easier 7) lightweight 8) sound, feel & mental practice of writing which for me makes remembering easier 9) "Cool" - I will admit - but its last on the list

All great points. E-ink devices are perfect for business note taking. The lack of proper onenote integration is really perplexing and frustrating!

I’ve been using Remarkable 1 for three years and use it everyday. I have a bookshelf full of old traditional paper notebooks but it’s impossible to find notes from clients two years ago.

With Remarkable I have a folder for every client. Some one light weight book for thousands of pages of notes all properly organised.

Best of all it feels like writing on paper.

Can’t wait for my R2 to arrive! Due in early October.

Hi JB. Here’s why I am choosing to invest in a RMII (I’m batch 8, and waiting patiently):

- the ‘superior’ writing experience
- the form factor -> light, small, portable, and easy on the eyes
- no longer will I have to waste countless sheets of paper, and/or replace my pens every week or two (I write a lot of mathematics and am constantly taking down notes and ideas)
- the distraction free experience - some may argue that a “do not disturb” feature is sufficient, but I prefer there to be no temptation whatsoever
- I can finally be organized in my creative space, with the ability to quickly access my work, without having to search through the many journals, folders and A4 pads I possess
- It functions as a pdf reader for academic journals (it might not be the best in this area, but it functions well enough for my needs)
- I love drawing, and even though it doesn’t replace a canvas with the traditional drawing utensils, I look forward to experimenting with it
- the Calligraphy Pen (honestly, this update was probably that which solidified my decision to buy this)

I preordered a Remarkable2. Currently have iPad, iPhone 11, iMac(2015), and MacBook Pro (2016). I have tried using a stylus on both iOS devices and just find it too cumbersome. I tried typing on the iPad to take notes during conferences, but found I made too many spelling errors using the virtual keyboard. Making my notes unreadable or missing what the speakers were saying due to correcting my errors. Using the MacBook Pro during conferences was a no go from the start due to the noise of the keyboard distracting others around me. I miss the ability to hand write notes in a device. The last time I was able to do so was on my first electronic device for organizational and notes: the Palm Pilot Tungsten E1. When it died I upgraded to the 2. Took notes on it (E2) until it’s demise in 2010. And I have been looking for another viable replacement since.

I usually draw out ideas on scrap paper I have on hand, as I don’t like carrying around a notebook. I am hopeful that the Remarkable2 is the answer I’m looking for.

Here’s how I see an e-ink note taking device benefiting me

Benefits over paper:
-The physical storage space needed for years of notes is relatively small
-No loose papers to lose
-No notebooks or loose papers getting crushed at the bottom of a backpack
-No paper to get fidgeted with to the point of becoming destroyed
-No pages falling out of a notebook after several years of continuous use
-Notes can be saved in multiple locations including the cloud

Benefits over laptop-typed e-notes:
-Easier to include drawings and diagrams
-Easier to write equations and mathematical formulas
-Easier to switch languages (especially with different writing systems/alphabets)
-Smaller/lighter/easier to carry around when only note taking functionality is needed
-Removes the distraction of spellcheck
-Using a separate device for note taking allows for full use of laptop screen when taking notes while following along in a software tutorial (great for classes on using a specific software)
-Longer battery life

Benefits over a traditional tablet:
-e-ink screen being easier to read
-thinner/lighter
-less distortion of handwriting (from what I have seen online)
-longer battery life

I have been taking my class notes on a tablet with an active stylus for about 7 years because I have a very hard time keeping paper notes organized and in good condition. With electronic notes, I have been able to reference notes from several years ago multiple times and it only takes me a few minutes to find the page of notes I am looking for. With the amount of drawings, diagrams, and equations I regularly put in my notes, fully typing all my notes in real time is not an option. Furthermore, my spelling is so bad that I fall behind in note taking when I try to correct all the things flagged by spellcheck. Handwriting also makes it easier for me to use shorthand and symbols to take notes faster.

I have been interested in using an e-ink notepad for years but I have been waiting for the technology to improve, the price to go down, and have enough money saved up the money for it. I love the experience of writing on paper but I need the organization and storage of electronic notes. My hope is to find an e-ink device to bring me both. Also, as I am reading a lot of papers digitally these days, I would also like an e-ink device to read pdf documents on. Traditional screens seem to make my dyslexia worse, especially with the bright, white, backlit background.

E-ink note taking devices are not a worthwhile tool for everyone, especially at their current price points. (If I could afford it, I would love to buy several sizes of e-ink notebooks to use for different tasks just like I use different sized sheets of paper for different tasks.) As much as I think these devices would be beneficial for me, I think it is also important to recognize that e-ink note taking devices are not the perfect tool for everyone. You don’t need to buy a piece of technology simply because it exists. That being said, there are many legitimate reasons why someone would want an e-ink notebook. No need to invalidate others for buying a device just because the device doesn’t fit your needs.

Thank You for this video! I'm looking forward to get my remarkable 2. I own all the other cool gadgets, but to think and work with a good level of concentration I need to write and slow down a little bit. My PC, Mac and tablets are pushing me to get faster and work parallel on texts and mails and notifications and ...
The e-ink device will be a new tool back to my passion on writing things and thoughts witn my hand. That's my way to get deep into creative work and learning.
