Also, you can now join my channel membership for just 99 cents per month. If you do so I'll be able to buy a cheeseburger and not starve, and you'll get some epic perks :)

Edit: Well, I made this video just a month before the Russia Ukraine conflict started, which is why that was not included. It is awful that such a thing is happening today, and I really do hope for the best. Hopefully this can end soon.

This is outrageous, it's unfair! How can you do a video about Russian history, without mentioning Novgorod?
Great video though!

Funfact about the russian flag. Its based on the dutch flag. Peter the first liked the netherlands alot. Its why saint peterburg has a canal, they founded a navy(also modeled after the dutch navy from the time) and also why you can find dutch style forts in russia

A couple of fun facts:

1. Through the fault of Ivan the Terrible, incomparably fewer people died than under other progressive rulers of Europe at that time (More people died in France during one St. Bartholomew's Night than during the entire reign of Ivan IV)
2. Napoleon was not defeated by winter - by the time it began, he had already lost many soldiers after Borodino and sitting in Moscow. The final defeat was predetermined by his defeat in the battle of Maloyaroslavets, because of which he had to retreat back outside Russia through the devastated areas.
3. It is hardly possible to say that someone won the Crimean War, given that the restrictions imposed on Russia were also imposed on Turkey, and France and England together suffered almost equal losses to Russia with a much smaller army at their disposal.
Well, in this war, the Anglo-French troops were defeated by Russian monks in the north and ordinary citizens in Kamchatka.
4. Russian Russian-Japanese war was started by JAPAN, without declaring war, firing at the Russian Port Arthur. In addition, Japan suffered enormous losses during this war, while Russia lost only because of overly cautious command and the revolution that began. As a result of the peace, Japan received nothing but the same Port Arthur, half of the empty and undeveloped Sakhalin Island and not a gram of gold indemnity, which together with the huge losses and costs of the war caused a number of riots in Japan itself.
5. Germany did not inflict a "fatal" defeat on Russia. The only similar episode was the abandonment of Poland, but after that the front stabilized and Russia continued to keep German, Austrian and Turkish troops on itself. Not to mention that the violation of the terms of mobilization and its acceleration, which led to an unorganized attack on Konigsberg in 1914, saved Paris. It was not the Germans who defeated Russia, but the Bolshevik Jews.
6. First, the February liberal revolution took place in Russia and it was the liberals who overthrew the Tsar. The Communists came 8 months later and tried to overthrow the already liberal Republican government. YES, THE COMMUNISTS DID NOT OVERTHROW THE TSAR.

2:11 the russian empire flag with yellow coat of arms in upper left of the flag was only used in ww1 from 1914 until the collapse of the empire in 1917. there were three flags used during Peter 1' reign, the blue cross with white upper left and lower right with red upper right and lower left (Ensign of the ship Oryol 1668-1693), then normal flag of russia with the bronze imperial eagle in it (Flag of the Tsar of Russia 1693-1700), then later in 1705 the normal flag of Russia was used until the creation of First official State Flag of the Russian Empire (black, yellow and white 1858-1896).

Hello, you made a very good video! I am from Russia, and I can say that you have true information, but you missed one point. Before the Bolshevik uprising, the February Revolution took place and Tsar (Emperor) Nicholas II was forced to abdicate in favor of his brother Mikhail. But he immediately refused and appointed a provisional government (the Russian Republic was formed). And then the Bolsheviks started the October Revolution, and then the civil war. But the Bolsheviks really killed Tsar Nicholas II. After the overthrow of the tsar, he was sent to Yekaterinburg, where he lived quietly with his family. When the civil war began, Yekaterinburg was under the rule of the Bolsheviks, and the tsar was killed

Kievan Rus did not have a yellow-blue flag. Who invented this myth? (Let me remind you that the history of Russia begins with Novgorod Rus, it became Kievan later)
