This is almost like listening to two aliens from a far advanced society on Jupiter talk about what they've gathered from watching our species for a while...Outrageous the ideas being presented are here. Such A gift if you can feel what's being presented.

Anybody else wish they could show their friends this but in reality their friends would zone out in the fist 2 minutes?

34:30 Oh my God. It happens to me almost every single time. Whenever I acquire knowledge that is in fact wisdom, even though my intentions are good in wanting to share it with people I love, I also immediately find myself rehearsing little speeches in my head where I've already absorbed that newfound knowledge as part of my everyday narrative and views on life. Eventhough I almost never get do, I find myself wanting to be "the professor".
Ego is such a weird thing.

Conversation sums up like Learning how to be enlightened hinders you from actually being enlightened. Very refreshing talk

I was a Kapil Gupta follower after reading his book 'Direct Truth'.

I started to believe recently that he holds extreme opinions about how humans function. Some key points and my analysis
1. Abdicates from taking responsibility for what he says by repeatedly saying 'This is for a narrow set of people' knowing fully well that all kinds of people consume his content on the internet. He defines this segment as someone who already know they are different and that they are kind of born with it, which is rather vague
2. He says, 'Humans think they failed because of not putting enough work without realising that the desire is not strong enough'. I think this is our natural behavior to cope up with failure. Haven't we seen success stories of an increase in effort(smart and volume of effort) and persistence leading to success ? Also, assuming that people lack the self awareness about their weaknesses and that they would persist is another fallacy. We doubt our strengths and magnify our weaknesses as per data
3. Why should one believe what he says ? What is the data set of these observations, analysis and recommendations ? How is the discourse different from dogma or religion ?
4. His definition of truth is that after knowing it, we would be in a blissful state and even Naval agrees to it. Why can't the truth keep on evolving and be personal ?

My belief is that living the right life must be left to the individual. The individual keeps moving between opposites mentioned by Aristotle in his golden mean principle related to morality. I think it can be applied to living in general. Every person strives to get this balance. Some extremes that we need to balance are
1. Fear of failure and guilt of not trying
2. Knowledge about one self and knowledge from the world
3. Sticking to beliefs and questioning everything
4. Seeking and being
5. Reflecting on what you already know and learning something new.

I started to believe all self help, productivity, success related content is romantic and that our minds love that stuff. People who have ambition are the segments that are impacted from this content and keep on engaging in such content.

This whole interaction is triple blinded. First is the content consumer whose unique circumstance and baggage is never considered by the speaker. The speaker doesn't really know how the content of what he spoke impacts the consumer. Second, The speaker speaks out of personal experience. Let's be honest, we are not good at evaluating oneself because of our inherent cognitive biases. Even people who train consciously to avoid these biases don't succeed 100%. Third, the observations the speaker might have regarding other people is also extremely faulty. Courtesy, biases again. What we have is a personality development influencer that is biased who draws conclusions by looking at patterns in other people to come up with theories and teach them to people whom he doesn't know at all.

My method: Filter the noise within, filter the noise from others, do what you want and see a therapist or talk to a friend if things aren't going well. Comsume content but also question.

This might be the best content that I have ever come across. Almost every now and then it's an experience of what Naval often calls as the 'Aha' moment. I prefer watching it at 0.75x or for some sections even at 0.5x so that I am able to see the depth in what is being truly said. Almost every single sentence is super dense in wisdom 🙌

Such a thought-provoking conversation, curious if there was another part as it ended so suddenly.
