Biggest tank slapper ever!!

Playing with a Jeep Track Hawk when the road got bumpy and I had really violent tank slapper at 120+ mph. Nothing you can do than just roll off and stay calm while the bike settles itself. Quite the ride.

After tank slapper, don t forget to brake several times in a row. Sometimes, when it s very violent, the brakes pad can move backward in the caliper and the first time you want to brake after a tank slapper, there is simply no more brakes...just experience here.
But all my bikes now have a steering damper and no more tank slappers, that s the solution my dude!

Hectic as man, would it be OK to feature your clip in a moto edit soon? It would be credited in the description and comments sections. Thanks, MM

I have that exact same sleeve over my front brake resevoir 😂😂😂 and bro I'd look into getting a gpr stabilizer or ohlins they prevent tank slappers like this I can't believe all bikes don't come with one its honestly a must have.

Tank slappers usually occurs when the front wheel of a bike breaks traction. A steering dampers can solve it.
Good job controlling it 👏

I see a lot of comments from people who don't understand how to avoid tank slappers, this info might save a life.

Front wheel wants to correct itself, but the more "input" a rider puts into the bars, the more they interfere with, or even amplify the wobbles.

It's only possible to be "light on the bars" when rider squeezes the tank hard enough they could take their hands off without changing body position.

Otherwise, upper body weight will be pushing into bars and amplify wobbles if they start. 99% of the time, front tire coming down a bit sideways is totally fine and will correct itself, but too much rider input amplifies the wobble.

It works for the same reason you can ride a bicycle with no hands without your front wheel turning sideways.

You: 'yeah we gonna race'

Bike: "I do not think so"

You: 'shit yo pants'

Bike:" starts laughing"

So many motorcycle "experts" yet I doubt most of them ride or own a bike. But for some explanation let me break down a tank slapper. They have nothing to do with "pride" that's so idiotic...If I had looped a wheelie like a noob than ya, but a tank slapper can happen to anyone. I accelerated on a bumpy part of the road. That caused my front end to "float" which is when the bars started slapping. That's why the wheel is turning full left/right while I go perfectly straight. I pulled over to check my forks and calipers because a slapper can easily pop a brake pad or suspension seal. I honestly had no idea this short video had any interest but I had to address the "experts" who seem to know everything about a situation that they weren't even involved in! 🤔

Definitely not the biggest slapper ever. Baby slapper. Atleast you didn't fall. Good job.

For all you wrist bangers that are wondering why this happens, you're putting way too much pressure on the bars. Grip the tank with your legs, ease up your grip on the bars and roll on.

Recently got a slapper, while just going highway speeds, very weird. When home i checked my whole front end, discovered that my head bearings were shot; so replaced that, new springs in my forks (origional springs from 2001), replaced the bushings, new wheel bearings (those had a very slight gribd to them). Rebuild my calipers, new pads, checked rotors for warpage. Danm it rides smooth now, didnt know what i missed out on. Might go and put a better read shock in it aswell and revice the linkage.

Always check your front brakes after this happens. I had one bad enough to spread my calipers so when I got to the next corner the lever came all the way to the bar.

One night I hit a frigging huge snapping turtle in the middle of an s curve, then got one hell of a ride. Both hands flew off the handlebars they were going so fast I couldn’t catch them again. I thought I’m dead. Somehow it just quit and straightened out. I don’t have an explanation why, just thankful. (and the turtle was ok too but man was it pissed off) I didn’t know it was a turtle till I went back to move whatever it was out of the road. I thought it was a spare tire from a truck when I hit it, that’s how big it was!!!

Tank slappers usually happen when the front wheel breaks traction with the ground especially when accelerating from a corner. Things just get out of balance slightly or alignment or a weight shift . Some bikes just seem to be prone to doing it, always tell someone if your bike has a habit of doing it, especially if you let someone ride it as it saved me big time
