Hammock Gear Snakeskins Dyneema Cuben Fiber vs Mesh. So which one is the better choice? Manufacturer published weights are 1.0 oz for Mesh and 0.9 oz for Dyneema Cuber Fiber.

The singe piece snakeskins are much easier and cleaner to use than the two piece.

I have both snake skins and prefer the mesh over the cuben fiber one. I take the tarp down with the mesh and then put it in the front pocket ( Mesh pocket ) of my pack so it can semi-dry out during the day. If it was a really rainy night then I will hang it some time during the day when I take a lunch break. The cuben fiber snake skin is used with a cuben fiber tarp. With the cuben fiber tarp I can shake it and a lot of the moisture on it will shake off of it. My main complaint with the cuben fiber tarp is that it's really loud during a rain.

Thanks a lot. Now I have to buy the mesh skin. Btw, nice job on the HYOH podcast.

Really wish I had gotten this instead of my two piece mesh skins-- purely for the fact of the bubble in the middle is always a p.i.t.a. to deal with.. especially when windy! Great review by the way.. these are now on my short list.

Great comparison review! I can see advantages to both. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! IMHO the only advantage to Cuben fiber is durability and lifespan. Mesh will inherently be torn up first. I have both as well and for the money I can buy several mesh compared to one cuben. I myself prefer the mesh.

Hi Mark I want to thank you for your great videos. I ordered a hammock and tarp from Hemlock Mountain Outdoors which is a cottage company from PA.

Thx for the video. Asked the question on HF about 6 weeks ago. I went with mesh even though I’m going through a Dcf buying frenzy. Any other cuben videos would be great. I’ve seen your backpack vid and now I’m considering. Hang on.

Have you ever tried the luffa wash thingy mod? You cut the string on the inside and it unfolds into a long net like a snake skin. I tried it for my Blackbird XLC and it works. It doesn't have any ties at the end, it is just a long net tube. I guess you could fold over and sew in a channel for some shock cord. thanks for the video. I just received my HG winter palace today and got the mesh snakeskin. It was a pain to try to get on. I'm wondering if I got one that was not sized right because it was pretty hard to get on and wasn't long enough leaving about 2 ft hanging out. I contacted HG and hopefully they can help.

Do you think your Hammock would fit in the cuben fiber skin?

Maybe a silly question, but do you think it would harm the tarp to keep it stored (at home) rolled up the way you do in the morning? I liked your technique.

Is it necessary to use a continuous ridgeline with snakeskins or can you use a dual/split ridgeline with snakeskins?

Wish you would have weighed both after you rolled them up..im trying to decide between SilPoly and DCF tarp with doors.

Great and informative video !
I have been considering a snake skin (as well as a better tarp, plus hammock, plus suspension, plus continuous ridge line for the hammock, and one for the tarp, plus etc., etc., etc., ....LOLOLOLOL !!! Aren't we all ? LOL !), and am glad that you covered this aspect.
My question is... what is the differences between the Cuban fiber, sil-poly, and sil-nylon traps (materials) ???
Do you have a video covering that aspect of the tarps ??
Any information on that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Keep up the great work !!!
