Restoring original lamps, along with building new traditional lamps, has been the specialty of The Luminary Shoppe , Rick Bischoff, for the last 38 years. Carriages and coaches were often arrayed with the finest elaborate coach lamps, from the Park Drags and Hearses, to the common doctor's buggy. Building and restoring horse drawn vehicles, with wheelwright, Dave Engel, introduces you to the top carriage lamp restorer in America, Rick Bischoff.

Bischoff is launching his own YouTube Channel, The Luminary Shoppe, to demonstrate the craft of the carriage lamp industry and will be an integral part of preserving the horsed drawn vehicle era. Meet Rick and better understand how Engels Coach Shop and The Luminary Shoppe are so closely related and follow his journey in his building of a YouTube library documenting his trade.

NEW APPAREL!
In response to numbers of requests we have just launched our shirts and accessories stores. We are using both Store Frontier and TeeSpring. Store Frontier will handle our shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies while TeeSpring will handle our mugs, caps and other misc. accessories. The first offerings are commemoratives of the Borax Wagons we built.

We have appreciated the long lasting support of you viewers and numbers have asked how you can help support the channel. I had calculated that if we reached 100,000 subscribers I would consider it as a valid endeavor. So, having reached, and surpassed that milestone, we have had a custom logo designed commemorating the Borax Wagon project. If this proves to be accepted I will continue to have designs created for an ongoing line-up of apparel.

Thank you to everyone who continues to find this channel worthwhile. The store links are below.

Thanks guys. I've been bingeing on Dave's channel for several days now and, just checked out Rick's. It is nice to see fixing and looking after equipment again. Suspect it is a generational thing, we come from the age of doing oil changes in the yard, filing points, etc. Under the hood of vehicles nearly daily, to point now of throw it away and go buy a new one.
My feedlot story, I did not work for the feedlot but, my hockey coach and his brother had a corral cleaning operation. When I was sixteen I was driving a 5 ton manure spreader!

Thank you, Mr. Engles, for sharing the interview with your brother-in-law. Mr. Bischoff seems to be very articulate and knowledgeable. I've subscribed to his new YouTube channel and look forward to learning about another aspect of the carriage trade.

Dear Dave, in addition to the fact that in each of your new videos, you open for us a new page of American history and its talents, you also introduce us to your talented relatives! Thanks a lot!!

My wife, when she wants to get mean, sometimes calls me "Jurassic Fart". It is so nice to see a couple of fellow dinosaurs preserving the technology and wisdom of the past with such great respect, and passing it on so others can learn. I will never build a wooden wheel, nor a coach lamp. But some young person out there will maybe want to, and these two channels are a critical way of connecting our past with our present and future. The intelligence, inventiveness and craftsmanship of those who came before us is something to be treasured and passed down. Thank you both for doing this.

I feel a real kinship to the two of you. My living is restoring antique pocket watches. Much of what you've said is applicable to my own journey and trade.

At the beginning of this year I started a separate channel trying to show a bit of the techniques I practice. It really makes me appreciate all those who do demonstration videos. Making a good video is a lot harder than the casual watcher realizes.

Thanks for what you do.

Thank you, Dave, for telling me about another craftsman who is continuing an endangered craft. I think learning how these pieces of our history were used and created is another way to appreciate our past. Besides, I love to watch how these pieces of art are created or restored.

Wow! "D" here again. This just came up on my youtube "feed". You did a great job of interviewing Rick and asking questions that you probably already knew the answers to most of. This was so fun, nice to see this part of Rick's business, I never really had a cause to go see his stuff before, but this was sure interesting and seeing both of you was like a visit home. I will definitely check out his channel.

In 84 -85 i stopped at The Coach Shop as sales and delivery for Napa in Laurel. I sold one hacksaw blade to Dave as a lifetime warranted tool. I stopped every week with a new blade in hand to get me in the door. I enjoyed watching +have talked about Engels to hundreds over the last 37 years . I lived on Duck Creek -Tween Big B -and Laurel Mt. 18 years .Then bought grampas homestead from family in 93 in Roosevelt Count N.E. mt. A near highest bucket list event for a very long time was to go to Joliet's shop's one more time. WE are promised we will be gifted the desire of our hearts if it is a good thing ., Finding Engels Y.T. Channel was overwhelming as it is far better than going there, hoping for a short visit. I believe we can spent eternity together and have a long chat .This morning i was talking to my banker -we have a near daily chat before he starts work - I was describing The Luminary Shoppe this morning thinking Rick should do Y.T. Channel -- this evening i found my desire fulfilled again. I had been at Rick's 10 by 12 ft shop..I spend days in a workshop watch Engel's . I had never subscribed to any before this . We now serve Amish Communities and love old ways.I am with with Dave by SHOP TELEVISION + do learn . I think it is near the best thing on the T.V. salute + keep on.President Reagan came to Billings Metra around the time of the 89 Cattle Drive my Neighbor B.J. Lawrence was proving his Wells Fargo Coach and team at 9;30 pm at the Metra showin off how to snap off all the hitchen parts . My all night shop did the repair, my only coach repair ever. I encourage young people to learn a skill . True wealth is increase the value of something .
