Look What Happens When a Huge Dam Is Opened!

Nature is an amazing force that has been maintaining order and harmony on our planet for millions of years. Even the most insignificant element of nature has its meaning and purpose.
Take, for example, rivers: they cross all existing continents and help people survive since prehistoric times. Rivers are a source of drinking water and food. Without them, it would be impossible to irrigate the land and carry people and goods from one settlement to another.
Nevertheless, in order to live safely near deep rivers, we have to make certain interventions. For example, since ancient times, people were building dams on the waterways to adjust the flow of water.

Great video!

Although it wasn't a hydroelectric dam, people should look up the Great Johnstown Flood. A poorly maintained earthen dam let loose early in the morning of May 31, 1889. It swept into the city of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, crashing into steel mills and picking up huge bales of barbed wire and demolishing everything in it's path. In the debris and tangles of barbed wire 2200 people perished. You can still visit the dam, it's now a very pretty but somber park.

I'm really surprised you didn't include the Grand Teton dam break in Idaho in 1976. The 305 ft. dam wiped out complete agricultural towns and cost 11 people their lives. It had a huge impact on Yellowstone's trout and the snake river habitat. To make matters worse, logs that had been stored around the dam broke loose, rammed into a gas storage tank which exploded and sent flames along the racing water. The flood and resulting fires nearly destroyed Rexburg and Hibbard. Government claims were filed well into the 1980s totalling over $300 million. (Source: Wikipedia)

Standing next to the water jetting out like this looks incredibly dangerous. Also standing next to a flood with all that soil and mud flooding everywhere.

This is an extremely confusing, and often incorrect, summary of the entire issue of dam development. The descriptions of benefits are incomplete and the photos and video clips used are often completely unrelated to the projects described in the audio. The costs of developments, which can be very severe when failures occur, are not well described. The social and environmental impacts are superficially described. There are MUCH better YouTube videos dealing with dams and reservoirs. This one is a waste of viewers' time.

The tragedy in Brazil was a tailings dam failure not a release. They’ve had more than one of these failures due to poor maintenance and just plain not caring about the environment or the people who live below these tailings dams.

I liked the statue of Jesus on the cross towards the end. It tells us that when things go wrong in life, we need to call out to Him. He is no longer on that cross, but has risen and is ready to rescue whosoever that calls out to Him.
