Consistency is the key. Showing up for the class every day and giving it your 100%. It is hard when you do it but that feeling after the class is amazing!!

I hate Bikram Yoga, but have been doing it since 2003 because it works for me.

After 6 years of practicing Bikram. I find it to be more restorative now than it is "hard" almost like a Yin sequence. Your breathing is the key to getting through the sequence instead of shear will or muscle power. Even though it's the same sequence it always feels fresh and new

2020 and this review is still relevant. Good points mentioned here and most feel the same on their Bikram journey.

I really like your review because of your honesty and able to divulge relevant details. I agree with you on a lot, especially not letting instructors push you beyond your healthy limits. I'm sure the tough love and competitive attitude is encouraged and probably established by Bikram. It's beneficial, but only to an extent. I pulled my back out in my first week. It didn't stop me from practicing, but it did show me I needed to respect my own limits.

I've been away from it for some time, but was just diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disk issues...Soooo. ...I'm back on the mat again.

I'm really grateful that I already survived my beginner stage and got comfortable with the routine. You really can "get back on the bike" really quickly.

People in comments say that they don't come, or leave class because they are afraid to pass out, cry, etc. This practice is a meditation. Being predictable in many ways, it allows you to go into autopilot in a certain respect with your body. Allowing you to use that energy to control the mind, breath and emotions.

Great talk Jason, i couldn't agree with you more. "Hippy Crack", ha ha. I just wanted to say that i too suffered, more than most it seemed, from dehydration problems. I feel now that i have solved the problem of dehydration by making this great potassium/magnesium smoothy that i drink immediately after class. I would like to share the recipe with all who read this. The recipe is as follows: a handful of pitted dates, four dried purple figs, one banana, half a litre of pure coconut water, two handfuls of frozen pitted black cherries, a scoop of milled flax seeds and a scoop of pure cocao powder!! Blend it all to high heaven for as long as it takes to make it a chocolate drink. Voila!! you have your anti-dehydration smoothie for after class. Good luck to all in pursuit of a happy, healthy, mind/body life and a better lucidity of consciousness.

Really great review. I've been practicing Bikram for about 10 years and teaching for 4 or so. I have no credential, as I was trained by my instructor to replace her while she had a baby, and have continued teaching ever since. This affords me a unique perspective on the practice as I have no special attachment to Bikram or his philosophy and lifestyle (I didn't pay the thousands of dollars in tuition either). I agree and find myself in alignment with all the perspectives you present.. there are days that I can feel that an aggressive teaching style is desired, and there are days when a softer more inward focused style is more effective. Every class and individual is different. I was pleased that you mentioned the group rapport that forms when enough people are practicing together. I think of this as consciousness in of itself, with it's own ever shifting personality and needs. Always be your own best guru!

Raw Vegan Diet, surfing 5-6 days a week.... I can't gauge anything off of this review based off of such skewed variables.

Get to the point. You are way too wordy. So I have to move on.

You are very real in what you said.  Thank you for being so very candid.  I urge anyone viewing this video to watch the entire thing.  Please.  Watch the entire video.

The release of emotions are traumas we store in the body. We hold life experiences in the body. Releasing the tension, sometimes causes the flood of emotion to be released. I experienced this doing hip openers and tears released. We store it in our abdomen, shoulders etc.. We hold emotions in at times when we experience stress. It is good to release it, to move towards healing.

This is such good advice. Ive taken about 5 Bikram classes and two of those I almost started crying. I've had to leave early a few classes bc I was worried I might pass out. Now I know I'm not the only one haha. But rsalky, thank you.

My Bikram yoga class experiences parallel yours. They definitely have taken me to a most wondrous place, beyond what any other yoga class has. It is all about realizing yourself in the most truest deepest sense. Bikram draws this from those who focus and center and go with whatever happens in a gentle loving compassionate way without judging oneself. Your statements rang true to me. Thank you for your expressing your thoughts and truths.

Jason thank you for sharing.  I have been practicing on and off for over three years.  I really love the challenge and that you never really master the postures but I can really notice so many positive changes in myself.
