If you love stargazing—or want to foster a love of astronomy in your kids—there’s never been a better time to be alive.

And I don’t mean because we’re likely to have a permanent presence on the moon in this very decade, or that a Mars base, space hotels and asteroid mining are all finally on the horizon as well.

It’s because telescopes are becoming as easy to use as smartphones, and are increasingly able to offer the same views in the city as out in the country, despite all the light pollution. The Vaonis Stellina is just such a telescope, and using one is all it takes to turn almost anyone into a space enthusiast.

I have Stellina's new sibling the Vespera. Vaonis has created something special with these instruments. I've been an amateur astronomer for over 50 years and believe we are seeing a revolution in astronomy and astrophotography. These devices will continue to evolve. Ease of use with incredible results is important. Last night I set the Vespera in the driveway and walked away. It imaged the Rosetta Nebula for two hours while I watched football on TV. I enjoy manually post processing my images afterwards. The final image of Rosetta is better than what I can achieve without Vespera. Pretty incredible. Lastly, I can't wait to get my granddaughter in front of this device. A new generation of students will be inspired to pursue math, science and engineering in college.
