I was a housekeeper for an ER nurse… can confirm. All caffeine, protein powder & clif bars, a ~plethora~ of wine, the wackest sleep schedule, 4 cats, & absolutely no concept of organization whatsoever. But she was a total badass & amazing at her job. Nurses are something else, man

Fun fact: my grandpa learned how to write and read while working as a nurse assistant in the 1940's. He never went to school but was quite intelligent and had an almost photographic memory. When is mind started going away (dementia) he would often talk about his work at the hospital and how stuff was done in those days.

As a Respiratory Therapist, I was to be everywhere for emergencies, and also had my own assignment. I could be assigned anywhere in any one of the buildings. One day I overheard them, as the unit secretary was putting names and beeper numbers on the whiteboard for the day. Someone asked, "Who's here from Respiratory?" The Unit Secretary answered, "The nice one." As someone who always had good reviews in my chart, so I knew my work was good, I strived to be good to my patients who were very sick. The last thing they needed was a grump taking care of them. That was the best thing I could have heard, I felt good the whole week I was assigned there. It makes all that OT worth it.

ICU nurse here asking 101 questions during report when getting a new admission and the ER nurse getting irritated with me 😂
ER and ICU nurses are two different species of nurse lol

We send SO MUCH stuff to the ER that doesn't make its way upstairs.

They're so notorious for this that some nurses upstairs didn't know a lot of common IVs are stocked in Pyxis machines in the ER. I get so annoyed finding a bunch of meds in the bottom of the stations.

I swear one person pulls them out, leaves them underneath the tubes, and then no one else makes their way there.

"You sent it after I brought the patient upstairs."

"We sent it 4 hours ago..."

My mom is a nurse (recently retired) and I've seen her put in an IV while looking at me and having a conversation about school or something. She's amazing. Bless all of the nurses and their families because I know the impact. It isn't a job, it's a calling.

I am so sorry but this is so accurate. I felt so bad one night when I made it in to the emergency room because I needed gallbladder emergency surgery and I asked my husband to bring my nurses Dennys because they had not eaten yet and were so busy tht night. So grateful to ALL you nurses!

I work nights in the ER as a clerk and the nurses always give me pizza 🥰
