My friend had a seizure at a crosswalk in Atlanta, she regained her composure as she was being put into an Ambulance and started screaming "I didn't call you! I'm not paying for this!" Over and over until they let her go. I have never considered this a funny story.

I don't blame him for running. Those bills are enough to cause a heart attack. Shame on America, the richest third world country on the planet.

I can't blame him. I was having heart palpitations two weekends ago. Freaked out, I considered calling 911 but after thinking of the costs, even with health ins, I decided to drive myself to the ER. I sat in my car in front of the hospital for a while (again...considering the costs of going in), and eventually I started feeling better. I drove back home.

It sucks that health decisions have to be made from a financial standpoint. But yeah...this is where we are.

UK here. Your healthcare system is downright uncivilised.

Things are not fine when it’s literally cheaper to take a plane and skydive to the hospital than it is to take a 10 minute ambulance ride.

I use to have an American girlfriend, and while she was over here in the UK visiting, she hurt her knee. We called the ambulance and got her to the hospital.

We thought nothing of it, she was worried about the cost. She paid nothing for the initial treatment.

She paid for good physio back in the US thereafter, but the idea that someone can be more worried about the financial impact rather than their health when they are hurt, is stupid.

Kinda reminds me of my friend suffering a heartattack and getting airlifted to the nearest big hospital, despite there being plenty of doctors, a private clinic and a small hospital in his town. But the helicopter gave him the best chance of survival, cost him nothing and he's back working paying tax as opposed to being dead. Love living in Europe.

I fractured 3 vertebrae, ripped the nerves from my rib cage, was in so much pain I couldn’t breath at some points let alone talk.
An ambulance was called, blue lights to the hospital were I had numerous X-rays taken, my own private room & a nurse who constantly checked my condition.
When I finally left hospital I got a bill for NOTHING! I didn’t even get a bill.
All because I live in an country where your health isn’t decided on whether you have insurance & exists in the 21st century!!

That’s funny. So drunk he passed out but not too drunk to realize how expensive ambulances rides are. Wow!

i'd run away from a $20, 000 medical bill too.

Only in America, used to be a thing said with pride

Even here in Mexico an ambulance ride is free, I didn't even know other countries charged people any price for saving their lives

I’d rather call a limo and go out in style for that price

It is true folks coming from Australia with it's socialised health care, puts the American health system to shame. It is safer to have a baby in Vietnam today than it is to have a baby in America. Time to wake up America and learn how to share with each other,

I used to work as a travel consultant in Australia. We used to STRONGLY advise anyone travelling to the states that they take out travel insurance for medical expenses up to a million dollars. That was 30 years ago.

Most Americans have been priced out of the market for health care.

My friend who is a single mother called me one day from the scene of an accident while bleeding from the head and refused to get in an ambulance because she was so fearful of ending up bankrupt over medical bills.
I told her to get in the ambulance and I would pay the bill for her.
She was in tears and didn't know what to do.
I'm an attorney and negotiated the bill down and paid it. Thieving bastards.

"Health care" in this country is a criminal enterprise. Someone working full time and another part time job with a college degree should not have to worry about these things in their time of need.
