Welcome to my life full of fun!

This is the new play thing for the channel. I am very exited to learn all about the rotary, but I don't think I was ready for what was in store when I bought the car...

This channel is based on my many hobbies, each with representation in this video, including Surfing, Mountain-Biking, Flying, Cars, and adrenaline-driven stuff.

These guys are the ones who helped me make this channel.

You are a braver soul than me. I really wanted a Rotary, but was scared away by the horror stories. Ended up with a Turbo'd Mazda 3 instead (not a Speed)

Great choice, tbh that feeling of joy never goes away. I've owned mine for 10 years, still so much fun to rev!!!

I got one at 47k miles. Compression was ok (mid to low 6s) but I kept premixing and getting a service every 3-4k miles. I'm currently at 65k miles and have just started to experience hot start issues. Fortunately in the UK, where I'm based, we have some excellent rotary specialists that offer rebuild packages from £1k (depending on the type of performance pack you want and parts list). They even offer up to 2 years warranty + extendable. The total cost of a rebuild + what you bought the car for comes to a good value considering you get a nice car that is then under warranty. If its only compression loss then they're fairly easy to rebuild. Things only get complicated if you damaged the coolant seal and the car overheats - then there's a need to replace the rotor housing and other components, otherwise most cases its just compression loss which can be dealt with easily.

Do I regret this? Hell No! that statement is really tempting me to blow all of my life savings right now on an FD RX7

Congrats! You seem to have a handle on the main things that need to be looked for and addressed. Wishing you the best! I love the color, wish I had the option at the time I was looking six months ago.

You obviously did not get the car compression tested before buying it... Those cars warrant some research before being bought, so that one can make an informed decision...
It's not a total loss: Buying a low compression car isn't a totally bad idea. You can get it rebuilt by a good rotary specialist and take the opportunity to have some upgrades installed while you're at it (Street port, Sohn adapter, uprated coils, new engine mounts) and have a car that will give you several years of fun, satisfaction and relative peace of mind knowing that engine is now sound.

They're not cheap to run but they're fantastic little cars.

Yellow ones are rare. I believe they were only produced during the first year of production. Keep an eye on rust: Earlier cars suffered from it more than later models. But a well kept yellow RX8 is a unicorn! You should keep it and take care of it.

I know it would take a lot for me to give up on my RX8 ownership!

Its great in handling and cheap but its expensive to maintain and it consume too much fuel

I suggest to premix 7.5 oz per tank but be prepared for a rebuild or new engine in a few months. Do replace the starter with the updated one.

My first one before it was sadly branded salvage after someone hit me never flooded until the last day I drove it (talk about timing) but I managed to start it by just putting the pedal to the floor to cut fuel when turning over and then pulling my foot off the pedal to give it a little fuel and sure enough it did the trick after 2-3 attempts.

I did the same thing, had an rx8 at 18 in uk college and tbh it's the best thing I ever did, it blew up after 4000 miles (60k on the clock) bc my dumbass didnt check compression when i got it but it put a fat smile on my face and I'm boutta get another 4 cars down the line

I thought I had a unicorn... And def one of the best cars I've owned (interior, etc, driver's car) But... Hate to say, ticking time bomb. Save money for a replacement engine. Fingers crossed for yours.

You won't regret it for another 10, 000 MI or so when the engine needs to be rebuilt. All those things you listed that it needs a new starter you need new ignition it needs new plugs those are all symptoms of a worn and failing motor I'm not just some hater I have an RX8 and two rx7s.

Alot of scared people when it comes to rotarys. I've been a rotary guy for over 30yrs and my 1st was a 81 Rx7 12a. Could never get the car to start reliably all because there was water in the gas tank. Once drained, that fixed my problem. See back in 1991, we didn't have the internet or YT to EDUCATE us on these. You just had to have faith and do whatever you could to LEARN about them through trial and error. You kids got it easy these days. Probably by now you've already replaced that starter with the high torque version. I highly recommend replacing your battery with the Nissan Titan 24F version that puts out 800cca. They're not that expensive at Walmart. That battery combined with the improved starter will more easily start low compression rotarys.

Do you have compression test results? Upgraded starter may not address the hot start problem if your apex seals are worn.
