I love how you guys act like ghosts or proof of the afterlife would be the end of arguments over religion and stuff like that, if ghosts showed up today, religious people would see it as proof of their religion, and atheists would see it as proof of a reasonable explanation. And we would keep arguing, just like we always have.

Ghost stories may seem frightening on the surface, but really, they are a great comfort to people. People want to believe in ghosts because they want to believe in the afterlife because they want to believe in God because they want to believe in meaning. Meaning is what it all comes down to. Therefore, not only does God need to be a creative force, but a creative force with a plan. An example could be the supposed occurrence of demonic possession which might signify the presence of good and evil at war. In a way, more broadly, haunting serves as a kind of system of justice for those who were not served justly in life. But if we accept that there is no plan, no God and no ghosts, the reality becomes all the more horrifying. It is the void which people truly fear, not cackling specters or malevolent ghouls.

i am legitimately curious to the existence of ghosts, i am aware of a lot of the mind tricks and mistakes that can be made, but some of the stories make me ponder what if and how could it happen

one thing it would do is bring closure. imagine a family member passes away while you were taking care of them. after they die, you begin to see some things move around on their own, such as a door closing on its own. it would bring closure to the person, because hey, they arent really gone away for good if their ghost is there.

We use to live in this farm house. I'm not sure if it was haunted persay but there was something very off about it. I had nightmares almost nonstop the entire time we lived there. My mom had a couple creepy experiences there too. While I've never had true ghostly experience myself my step-dad has. My mom's sister also lived in a haunted house for awhile and her whole family experienced some weird shit.
