Bad VVT Solenoid Symptoms: 7 Common Failure Signs
Discover the warning signs of faulty variable valve timing solenoids. This video examines the common bad variable camshaft timing solenoid failure symptoms - including check engine codes P0013, P0010, rattling timing chains, rough engine idle, oil leaks, hesitation on acceleration and loss of power. Learn how diagnose issues with your car's VVT Solenoid before major engine damage results.

A variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid is an electro-mechanical component that controls and adjusts the opening and closing timing of engine valves, primarily the intake and exhaust valves. The main failure signs of a faulty VVT solenoid in one paragraph are:

The VVT solenoid can fail over time leading to symptoms such as rough engine idle, loss of power, reduced fuel economy, engine misfires, check engine light illumination with trouble codes for cam/crank correlation or timing issues, engine oil leaks from a damaged solenoid seal, loud rattling noise from the valvetrain, and difficulty starting the engine due to improper valve timing. If these symptoms are observed, it typically indicates wear, clogging, or electrical failure in the VVT solenoid requiring replacement to restore proper valve timing control and engine performance.

Thank you so much I was dealing with these symptoms for a while, changed the VVT Solenoid with a new one and now I feel my car like new, greetings from Venezuela!

If you go to a mechanic with this they will say you need new spark plugs because it will give the same symptoms. After they take your money for the tune up you didn’t need and the problem is still there, they will then charge you for diagnosis and finally they will replace the solenoid once they found the problem. This is how mechanics try to make extra money.

I have a code and I don't know how to get the electrical diagram for the sensor
This code is P1349/P1656
Part vvt-i
Cam Timing Oil Control Valve Assembly
15330-21011 Part number at the agency
Corolla 2003
I want to know
1-How much electricity and how many volts v coming out of the plug to the sensor.

2-How many ohms resistance is the coil for the sensor.

Note that I searched the net and did not find an electrical diagram for the valve

Hello, I have a corolla 2015 and my car makes a rattling tac tac tac noise when is very hot outside 115°f. I just changed the oil thinking it was probably the oil that was too old but it keeps doing it, could it be the vvti solenoid or the entire vvti system or perhaps the 0w20 oil that they recommend is too thin for this extreme weather, that thing is like water

I did a full tune up on my 11 rav 4, got it from mechanic no check engine, but it is over reving at lights and shaking like crazy. Thanks for this video. I’m pretty sure changing the solenoid will help a lot. The wiring harness looks like crap too, i might need to change that as well we shall see ordered the part. Thanks for this video again

also cleaning the filter may be needed rather than replacing though you're already in there at that point

I have a 2007 vw Rabbit 2.5L. I already replaced the coils and plugs, the first Fuel injector (which was giving off a code) and replaced all of the fuel injector top and bottom O-Rings. It’s still sputtering. I Do have thicker Oil in it, but it was running fine for the past 6 months. It loses power during acceleration and around 3-4th gear.

I have a 2010 vw tiguan 2.0 tsi and one piston is misfiring i checked ignition coils sparks injector they were good and i even redone the timing chain and it still got less power and it still misfire on cylinder 4

I’m changing out a bad water pump in my ‘17 Ford Explorer. At 168, 000 miles it’s probably be wise to just go and replace the VVT solenoid right? Hell I’m changing out the alternator too since it’s never been changed.

I have a 2020 V6 Chevy Blazer outputting P0024 code. When shifting 1-3 gear she shakes. Runs very smooth after that. Could it be the selonoide?

Hi. My car sometimes rattles 1-2 seconds after startup. Its not got timing chain. Can it be vvt solenoids? Will it damage something if not replaced? No fault codes are present, and no other symptoms.

I’ve got code p000A but none of these symptoms it idles fine on tick over with slight tiny misfire hear and that in cylinder 4

Is the supposed to be volt at idle in the solenoid terminals?

I have an 08 tacoma 2.7l i4, i have had misfires and variable low idle/vibration, but if you give it a little gas, it runs good. I just got the haynes manual and read about this sensor. I was going to pull the head and have it checked. Do you think it might be this vvt sensor?

Hi, had a bearing Knock on my audi, cut the crank, replaced pistons, rings, bearings, schemed the head replaced valves on cylinder 3 and i still keep getting misfire on cylinder 3, the compression in the cylinder is quite low but its low on cylinder 2 and 4 as well, but only getting the misfire on cylinder 3 on the VCDS and high values for misfiring on cylinder 3, could the VVT cause this as its strange that only cylinder 3 is misfiring so much, also the misfire is mostly at low rpms, some help would be appreciated.
