DIY Outdoor Kitchen | Blackstone Griddle

After smoking up the house - you know what I mean - we embarked on a quick DIY outdoor kitchen that worked with the new Blackstone griddle.

Framed with treated 2x4's, wrapped in cement board where the grill would be placed, painted black with high temp paint, plywood and cement board for the tiled surface, and wrapped the island with a vertical shiplap. You will need to waterproof the non-treated wood to protect from the elements.

What I would maybe do different would be to wrap in stone or something that is not as affected by the elements - for now it works for us!

If you're going to store your propane tank under the griddle you might want to install a vent. If the tank ever leaks and you try to ignite the griddle with gas built up under there you've created a bomb. The vent will allow any residual gas to escape. Otherwise, looks great!

Good Morning What. We. Did.,
I'm a weekend DIYer and I love cookin. I just watched your video and think your "Outside Kitchen" turned out absolutely fantastic.

I've always talked about trying to build some type of enclosure for my 36" Black Stone Griddle outside in my backyard but just never got right down to doing it. But now that I've seen what and how you have done yours, well put it this way, you are definitely a great inspiration.

I'm going to make it long/ large enough to be able to have both my 36" Black Stone Griddle, my 5 burner propane BBQ grill, and my double basket stand-alone deep fryer enclosed along with one of those small college dorm type refrigerators. I'll have enough counter space on both sides to be able to have my microwave and sit and eat at. I'll probably make it a U shape enclosure.
Naturally, I'll have cabinets underneath for my storage of cooking utensils and some dishes.

Wow... a good thing it doesn't cost to dream, huh? LOL Oh well one of these days I'll get my dream kitchen built and then I'll send you some pitcures so you can see how it turned out.

I was just thinkin, what do you think about if I enclose it all in cinder blocks, and then cover it in some type of nice treated wood? Just a thought.

Have a wonderful day and happy cooking,

Going to burn up on the sides where the heat escapes, that’s why the factory made those reliefs in the metal ones that came with it.

I know this video is two years old, but I'm looking to build something for someone and I don't personally have a blackstone, do you know what the depth of the recess was for the blackstone without the legs?

Really nice job. I was curious if you left the short legs on and just built up the front to conceal them. Thanks

Did you put and short legs on the blackstone to elevate it?

Has anything caught fire yet?😬

Great job that looks really good. I'm thinking of doing something similar with my pellet smoker and griddle.

How did you handle the grease trap in the rear? I have a similar setup but I have a wall to my house on the backside and I can't use the rear grease tray because I can't get to it, so I have an older model with the grease tray in front. How did you manage this with your rear grease trap setup?

Have you noticed any excess heat affecting the sides of your table build?

Looks great
I did something similar 5-6 years ago and the grout doesn’t last outside and the wood is warped, rotted, etc
So now I’m trying to come up with other ideas to redo it all….

Is the heat buildup excessive on either side?

or just use metal so you don't have to worry about it catching on fire.

What about all the heat coming from the sides and the heat of the griddled isn’t going to burn the wood and that tile

What about the side/back heat vents? The walls are so close. Does that have any issues?

Did you just sit the blackstone directly on the cement board?

How do you manage the grease trap with the back enclosed? I’ve been thinking about doing something similar. Looks great!
