The Doorway to Hell (Explained)

This is the doorway to Hell... Or at least that's one name for this natural phenomenon. This is the Darvaza Crater, created by the Soviets drilling into a gas pocket. Geologists initially set it on fire to burn the copious amounts of methane gas being released, expecting the fire to burn out in about two to three weeks. Little did they know, they created a one-of-a-kind, Turkmenistan tourist attraction that has been around for over 50 years.
