I bought this book from Tooth - I should have made him autograph it! I don't know if the nickname Tooth stuck or not but that's what they called him at Emporia State Jazz Camp back in 1992 ^_^ Story was a really drunk trumpet player was surprised to see Frank at a local bar and all he could do was point at Frank and say "TOOTH! TOOTH!

On a serious note, I had the honor and privilege to see Frank demonstrate these voicings. Students were asked to randomly choose a note and a chord until all 12 notes were chosen (with their randomly assigned chord: minor7, Maj7, min6, Dominant or whatever) and one might assume this randomly chosen chord progression would sound like an absolute train wreck but it didn't - it was stunningly beautiful.

All the Best!

Thank you Tony. You're very generous. I like you're digging in " old books". Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany.

You read my mind, Tony! When I requested Chapter 6 I hadn't looked at Chapter 7. Looking now, these two should be done together. Thank you!

When it comes to modern jazz harmony, Frank Mantooth's "Voicings" is the Old Testament, and "Modern Jazz Voicings" by Ted Pease and Ken Pullig (or the Pease-Pudding team, as I call them) is the New Testament.
