His breakthrough came with Columbia Records in 1951, marking the beginning of his influential career in country music.

Ray not only gave Charlie Walker “Pick Me Up On Your Way Down” to help Charlie get a hit, he sang the “Tennessee Tenor” harmony on the recording. Another favorite of mine with Ray singing harmony is Skeets McDonald’s “Gotta Get You From That Crowd”.
