Charlie Unwin is a sports psychologist and performance coach. After leaving the Army and competing for his Country in Modern Pentathlon, Charlie helped Lizzie Yarnold win double Olympic gold medals in the Skeleton - a sport which only allows competitors to train for 5 minutes per day due to the stress it places on the body. He’s now working with the Great Britain teams in several sports, including Equestrian and the Premier League helping mentor coaches at several Premier soccer clubs. Charlie talks with me about how to integrate sports psychology into coaching sports, how to rewire your athletes’ mind using visualisation to help them learn skills and compete under pressure. We also talk about how his training in the British Army informed his sports psychology practises and how you can use those in your coaching. We also discover a personal connection which was important in Charlie’s early work and success.
