Lucien wasn’t a hybrid. His mother was bitten and turned into a werewolf while she was pregnant. He was born a lycan, first purebred and he could turn at will. Lycans and werewolves are a different species, Lucien created the lycans.

While filming this movie, Michael Sheen was asked by Ron Howard if he could record a quick moment of dialogue for Frost/Nixon (2008). Sheen, covered in fake blood from the days filming, went to his trailer and recorded the dialogue. He asked someone to take a picture of him doing it and sent it to Ron Howard, who had it framed and displayed.

ok so for those who are wondering what the terms really are. disclaimer: i'm not saying that this is entirely correct or complete but here's what i know regarding the species.
werewolves: first generation of savage beasts and literally has no humanity in them besides their intelligence in hunting as a pack and recognizing human speech (though only portrayed by william while conversing with marcus in the second movie). lycans: second generation of the wolf bloodlines but consists hybrid qualities of human and werewolves. they are equal to or stronger than their vampire counterparts in terms of physical structure. but what sets them to be drastically different from the vampires is that their savage history leads them to be acting more as a wolf pack unlike the vampires which seems to be a government or royalty of some sort. third generation: modified lycans, basically enhanced and enlarged like seen the fourth installment of the franchise. created by corporation controlled by lycans that also takes part in the hunting of vampires in the era of underworld awakening. another one is marius though he drinks the blood of michael corvin as a powerup compared to the complex way of the corporate lycans "upgrade" their bodies.
corvinus hybrid: michael corvin, a human turned hybrid after being bitten by lucian and selene, whilst being a decendant of alexander corvinus, the father of both vampires and savage beasts. the transformation looks like a humanoid with dark skin and dark eyes but possesses strength and power both species of vampires and savage beasts cannot attain. second generation hybrid: eve corvin, daughter of selene and michael, not much information besides she is born as a 25% lycan and 75% vampire because her dad is a hybrid and her mother is a full vampire with a corvinus powerup which actually makes selene as strong as or more than that of her elders.
vampires- has less variety but contains an order/coven and has a way distribution of power. only significant variety is marcus and selene (specified below)
important characters:
alexander corvinus- considered the father of the immortal beings and the biological father of
marcus (first vampire because of the corvinus strain mixing with a bite of a bat? so apparently that really happened) and
william (first werewolf of the world as he was bitten by a wolf)
michael corvin - modern human descent of alexander corvinus
selene - main protagonist (duh) special vampire because she drank the blood of alexander and had gone through the "journey in the ice" in the last movie (fifth one) so she possesses extra powers like being immune to uv rays and the sunlight itself. plus faster healing properties than regular vampires.
victor, amelia, marcus(son of alexander) - vampire elders

My mind always blows when I remember Michael Sheen who's lean, mean lycan machine Lucian here also is sweet plump angel Aziraphale in 'Good Omens' AND weirdly giggly vampire Aro in 'Twilight'. The disconnect is unreal, haha.

I love how if victor wasn't a jerk the lycans and vampires could be allies friends and have a powerful army, rule the world and have hybrids to boot. If Marcus was awake it'd be a whole different story. Seeing hybrids Marcus could have saved his brother for real and not went mad. Victor ruined everything.

This is why I don’t get why werewolves/lycans are seen as villains even after this more (or at least not villainous compared to vampires). They were literally enslaved and started a war for their freedom.
