G’damn, this was SUCH a good video. I’ve always been pretty frustrated with cameras only replicating the Super35 sensor size for video and the constant sensor cropping. I would love a true 4-perf sensor size to have the flexibility of using a variety of ana lenses. This guide has been so helpful.

I love how your videos are incredibly well researched. You help us make the most of our system while saving us from a lot of learning pains.

Again, a superb explanatory anamorphic video by the 'professor of anamorphic'. I really love your vodeos ans all the passion you put into anamorphic.

I never knew blade runners model VFX shots were 65mm spherical (spherical flares) While the live action film shots were 35 was anamorphic (anamorphic flares). BTW awesome presentation, taking everything to a whole nother level man.

One point for SMALLER sensors is that on DIY setups, the extra crop allows for wider taking lenses before you vignette.

So while a Mir 37mm paired with a Kowa 16H, for instance, might not be very usable on my S1, it should clear the shorter Blackmagic sensor or micro 4/3.

Already have a GH5 and will be upgrading to a S1H because of everything listed 📸

I was going to preorder the Great Joy 85mm for my Komodo, but after watching this video, I might forget anamorphic for now.

This series is great. These videos always tempt me to buy an anamorphic lens or adapter. Having said that, I have barely used my new camera and lens combo for video as it is (Panasonic S5 and Panasonic 24-70).

I am dying for a Fujifilm XH2s 6.2 K no crop 3:2 open gate and Panasonic S5IIX 4:3 OG equivalent update on these numbers

Great video! This is really good information. I have a question that´s somewhat related to this topic. It might be a stupid question but I´m asking it anyway :) Almost all movies are "widescreen" but not all have the anamorphic look with flares, oval bokeh and so on. Do they use ordinary lenses and just crop to the format they wan't in postproduction?

Wonderful! Thank you! Now more questions LOL:
I have the new Lumix S5II and I pair it with Sirui anamorphic 35mm and 100mm 1.6X
- if I calculated ok…. If I record in 6K, I should select the 6K that gives the highest vertical resolution, the 3:2 instead of 17:9. Right?
- if I place marker frame, according to my calculation the 2:39:1 if the one to chose.
- do you prefer a 6K 4:2:0 or a 4K 4:2:2?
Am I right? Thank you very much!!!

Are you sure about the variable data amounts per pixel? As an EE that doesn't really sound right. It is more likely that the per pixel data content is fixed.

Always a fan of full frame looks however the problem with the extra height is although it’s useable for scope diy for 85mm and longer, at the wide end you’d still have to crop sadly as even a kowa bh/16h only barely works with 16:9 anamorphic mode of a 50-55mm lens:(. I think the only ‘budget’ full frame anamorphics are Vazen and they’re still 8k each :(

Bro, I understand the fact that Panasonic played a big role in contributing, but it would be needed to mention that you speak about pixels more than the actual phisical size cropping as it looks on the animations ;) Makes a big difference when comparing bigger sensor sizes (not resolution related).
Either way - nice episode. I have a feeling that though it should be placed somewhere in the begining of all the modules. It is quite some information for all the beginers rather than experienced viewers ;) Keep on rocking, cheers!
