A COUPLE whose love started through TikTok, have hit back at trolls who have attacked them for their 37 year age gap. 24-year-old Quran first met Cheryl, 61, when he worked with one of her family members and they instantly had a connection. Their friendship developed and deepened through a mutual interest...TikTok. Quran started to develop feelings for Cheryl and felt like he had to go for it! He told Truly: "I asked her out and I caught feelings first, we decided to make it into a relationship because we were both happy". Then to their delight, their TikTok videos absolutely blew up so much that they even had celebrities reposting and commenting on their content. However, despite the couple growing from strength to strength, not everyone was accepting of their new found love, with them receiving hate comments every day. Quran said: "They call her a zombie, the walking dead, how can you date your Grandma?" As well as these awful comments, people kept questioning whether their relationship was actually genuine. The couple added: "You will never find happiness if you spew hate, we're happy and you can't stop us!"

The crazy part is she is only 61. My mother is almost 60 and she looks about 25 years younger then this lady. She looks bare minimum 71 but more like 81

So, here's my issue.
My issue is not the age gap. It really doesn't matter as long as both parties are adults and have consent. My boyfriend of three years is 7 years older than me and we got judged for it at first, so I can only imagine how disheartening it would be to be judged for as big of an age gap as that. My issue isn't how she looks, some relationships can look odd on the surface based on looks, personality, etc. But if they are legitimately happy with each other, then more power to them.

My issue is the fact that she had known him since he was a minor at 16 and most likely wanted to be with him then. And that they had a close "friendship" until they started dating when he was an adult. This is textbook GROOMING. What usually happens with a victim of grooming is that as a minor, they'll become very excited with the fact that an adult wants to date them and develop an infatuation with that adult. While my boyfriend and I have an age gap, I met him when I was an adult and we were friends for nearly four years before we began dating. That infatuation is confused for genuine love and it can escalate to a serious relationship when they grow up and that infatuation is still there. The groomer knows that and uses that psychology intentionally. The thing is though, infatuation wears off over time. And it's then that the person realizes they have been groomed and want out. While I've never been in that kind of situation, I had a friend from high school that went through this with a teacher from another school. I won't go into detail what my friend went through, but it's basically the same situation as what happened with Courtney Stodden several years back. If you look it up, she was groomed by a 50 year old man and married him when she was 16. They tried to make excuses that her parents approved, that she was old enough to understand, etc. It wasn't until she went into her late 20s that she realized what was happening and that she was being abused for over a decade and she was granted a divorce. There's many other situations like this that can be used as an example, too. What's also sad is that when someone is being abused for so long, they'll believe that this is normal. It's very hard to convince someone who is dealing with this that this is wrong, because of how infatuation clouds rational thinking. Someone as young as 16 will not understand what is the best for them at that age. Quran is 24, even younger than me, and I realized that I really didn't understand what adulthood was like when I was teen despite thinking I was different.

If Quran and Cheryl read what I wrote, they'd probably accuse me of being judgmental and a hater. But the thing is, why would I want someone to be in a situation like this? I would love nothing more than to be totally wrong about my suspicions and that they are legitimately in a happy and consensual relationship. I'm offering my point of view about what I've seen and why I fear for this young man. I believe only time will tell when Quran gets older and that if this really is an abusive relationship, the bubble will burst and he'll leave before he is tied down to a responsibility like raising children with her. Like I said, I want to be wrong and I like seeing couples truly happy, but this has too much evidence to suggest that this is abuse and it's disturbing.

The thing that gets me, is they talk about all the hate that they get, all these couples always say the same thing, and it's not that I think they shouldn't be on the Internet, it's the fact that they make it their entire platform. If it's your entire personality, your entire existence, just solely about your age gap, that's what the hate will be about. I never understand why people don't see this and differentiate it
