Wes Streeting’s task as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is nothing short of gargantuan. 5 million wait longer than a fortnight for a GP appointment, patients waiting lists have hit 7.5 million, pay disputes and strikes are still unresolved, wait time for ambulances, treatment at A&E, and mental health care have all increased… The diagnosis is bleak, but what about the prognosis? Electioneering over, and now that he’s examined the patient for himself -  we ask the new Health Secretary to tell us - can he cure our broken NHS?

It's refreshing to hear an MP tell it like it is. The previous administration would gaslight when given the facts of the situation with the NHS.

This actually made me cry with relief especially with the walk in mental health hub in every city I really really hope this isn’t just air and the words meet actions x

As an NHS staff member - it’s so reassuring and refreshing to hear Wes talk about saving the NHS. I was so happy to wake up to a government who seem focused on saving one of the best things about this country

Wes, I'm counting on you to fix the NHS
Please start with us being able to get a gp appointment rather than go through this sing and dance over the phone at eight am in the mornings.

The biggest and most untapped asset of the NHS is its staff. To sort the problems you need to listen to all staff levels.

I have always said that the NHS needs a thorough review, because throwing money at it does not seem to have helped. I'm glad that this review is being done. It's long overdue imo.

For the first time in a long while I feel optimistic and hopeful as a junior doctor.
Hope we can come to a reasonable agreement.

Children's mental health is crucial. The UK should be a leading country in improving mental health among . Children, men, teenagers and Adults . There should not be a stigma

His and Labors problem in general is that people need and want change now but it will take a long time to undo the mess that’s been left behind. I hope they figure it out and that people have a bit of patience

Appears to be a genuinely decent honest chap, and approachable, one of us you could say.
Shallow comment to follow, (apologies in advance), he's also easy on the eye!

*Waiting 3 months for cancer treatment can be a death sentence. having the same issues here with Medicare in Australia.. At the end of 2022 my aunty was diagnosed with colon cancer. didn't get surgery for 3 months and didn't get treatment for a further 2 months. and now the cancer is back and has spread to her liver and it's still taking forever to start treatment. sadly, I don't think she will make it this time. she was also meant to get a hernia the size of a grapefruit removed for the last 8 months but now that has been pushed back. I'm sorry but health should be number 1 on the agenda*

I am one of millions that just need a minor op. It’s crazy over a year for a hernia. Come on.

Dam a younger politician, who presents himself well in both appearance and personality. I hope that what he is preaching he does deliver! I didn't have much hope for the nhs under the new government but alot more confidence after getting to see the new health Secretary

I found out how bad it was last weekend. After a motorcycle accident last Sunday in south Wales, my wife laid in the road in agony for 2 hours waiting for an ambulance which after 4 calls were told make your own way Broken arm and possibly left ankle. A kind resident offered to take her. With great pain we got her in the car and took her to A&E 8pm Sunday arrival. Didn't see a doc until 9.30 the next morning after the day shift started. All they have is nurses checking vitals every few hrs. A minimum of 8 ambulances outside all night which had priority for the 1 doc in department. It is not the staffs fault they were amazing but this is normal for them. Labour better sort it and hurry up about it..
