KC native here. My husband and I are getting Joe's for lunch now. 😆 You flung a craving on us. Also OF COURSE the burnt ends are better in KC than Texas. Burnt ends are a KC specialty. You kind of can't really call yourself Kansas City BBQ unless burnt ends are on the menu and they'd better be good.

When you said BBQ and gas station, I knew you were going to Joe's. Jack Stack is also good bbq. They are known for smoking their beans below their meats so the juices drop down into the beans. They also have lamb ribs which were something new and tasty.

Yo Mike! You can totally call ahead and place your order for pick up, especially when you're doing a long distance drive. I did a cross country road/camping trip last summer, after doing some research I decided to stop by Joe's on my way to my next camp site. I called them when I was about an hour away & pretty much walked in/walked out while there were long lines out the restaurant waiting for both take out and tables.

So good to see you in my hometown!! KC has the best BBQ in the entire world - I wouldn’t eat it anywhere else! So glad you finally got to try it!

While I haven't lived there for many years, I am from KCMO originally. I've never heard of making burnt ends sweet until you showed it at a BBQ in Texas. Next time you go, you should try Jack Stack. It's been around for decades. I know you don't normally do sides much, but if you go there, you definitely have to try the beans. They are sweet, smoky with a little bit of spice added and then cooked in the smoker under the meat and all the juices that drop down into them.

You might also consider doing a show around the American Royal where the annual World Series of barbecue is done. You'd get to try barbecue from all across the world and you can apply to be a judge, although there's no guarantee.
