New C63 4cyl v old C63 V8: DRAG RACE

We’ve got our hands on the all-new AMG C63, and we’re about to find out how it compares to the old C63!

Of course, there is one BIG change between the new and old C63. The V8 has been removed, and it’s been swapped with a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo! The question is, just how much quicker is the new car?

Well, let’s take a look at the stats! Mat’s in the old C63, and you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that produces 510hp and 700Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,750kg. When new, this car cost around £63,000.

Alongside it, we have the new car. Under the bonnet you’ll find the 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder, however, there’s also an electric motor on the rear axle! Combined, they produce 680hp and 1,020Nm, with power sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It’s mightily heavy, mind, weighing in at 2,190kg, and it costs an eye-watering £100,000!

So the new car has more power, but has Mercedes ruined it by removing the V8? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Thats the thing about AMGs, they shouldnt be about pure Numbers and 0-60

Take that hybrid system and package with the v8. Better performance, better fuel economy, keep the sound. Use better tech/materials to reduce weight. That's what we expect from a performance car "update".
