It’s kind of funny to me that in the US, it’s totally fine and normal for people to knead dough, tear bread, and handle food in many ways, but when we see someone in a foreign land doing it to a food we normally don’t, we find it gross. It’s important to realize that sanitization is a common practice everywhere in the world, and it’s not fair to assume that this woman has no knowledge of hand washing. Her hands looked extraordinarily clean though

In India and many south Asian nations it is common to prepare food by hand. In India we also have minimal use of cutlery and maximum use of hands to eat food. In the southern parts of India, the food is served on a banana leaf and you are not given any spoon or bowl. Its the most traditional way of eating here.

It's very common in other cultures to cook or eat with your hands.... It represents the love that goes into the food and establishes a connection with your food that teaches us to be grateful for it! If the lady was feeding it to other people, I'm sure she would've taken care to clean her hands properly. So don't worry! Let's be more sensitive to other cultures :)
