72 Disciples? How many disciples did Jesus have?

In Luke 10, an account is given of Jesus sending out 72 disciples. We know of the 12 disciples, but who were these 72? And what was the significance of Jesus sending out the 12 disciples and then the 72?

Luke 10:1
"After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come."

Jesus had way more than 12 disciples. He separated 12 of his disciples to be apostles (messengers). A disciple is just a follower of Christ.

Bible says
12, 70, 120, 500 and 3000 obviously this number grew over the 2000 year's of Christianity.
Now there is millions of disciple's.
John chapter 3 v 3 Jesus said you must be born again to see the kingdom of god.
Jesus Christ Messiah was God in the flesh Jesus due to bible terminology.
Once fully immersed under the water.
Mark chapter 16 v 15 to 20 and these signs shall accompany those who believe and are baptized.
Speak with tongues.
Pick up snakes and drink poison and it won't hurt you obviously we don't intentionally pick up snakes and drink poison.
Nonetheless it is written in the bible for our benefit.
Cast out demon's.
Layhands on the sick and they shall recover.
