You can't tell me what to do. You're not the boss of me. If I want to take crappy photos, I'm gonna take crappy photos.

Alternatively: Older flatbed scanners which use CCD technology are capable of scanning graded comics without having the focus ruined by the holder. Settings can be customed for optimal results using inexpensive third-party software like VueScan. CGC forums contain extensive discussion of both recommended scanner models and recommended VueScan settings.

Saw on eBay they’d only show the front of the book but not the back and it was bagged and boarded at the time. Wasn’t taken out at all.

Lol! So true I can't tell you how many 5k+ books I've looked at where you can't even read the label!

I really hate taking photos of slabs when selling. I also use natural light from a window that doesn't hit the slab head-on. And if I miss a certain time frame, I'd have to wait until the next day. I usually wear all black to battle the reflection. I feel like I have to dress up like a robber with a ski mask to get the perfect shot lol.

I also hate posting slab pictures for social media. I feel like the reflective plastic limits my creativity versus a raw book.

Excellent ideas and helpful. I just started posting photos of my collection and these tips will improve the presentation and overall effect. I have especially struggled with the reflections and will definitely try some of your techniques. Thank you !

I definitely love using zoom to take a pic of the slab. Great advice 👍

This bugs me too. If I’m looking to spend a lot of money (to me 2 or 3 grand) I want to see it. I’m shocked when I see so many shitty photos. If people are too lazy or dumb to take good photos it’s not a good sign in general and I keep moving.

Excellent work, another issue I always had was getting an even square photo, so I downloaded an app called adobe scan which will fix my offset photos.

Regie, many thanks for this public service video. When I purchased my first 35 mm camera many years ago I bought several guidebooks on how to take the best photos. They have served me well over the years even when using my tablet or cellphone to take photos to post on Instagram. I take pride in my photos so I always take the best ones I can. One of my pet peeves is sellers who don't take a photo of the back of their books, especially high price ones. I have to request that they do so before I decide whether or not to bid.

I like standing about 8' or more from the comic, then using 3X zoom, I'll take the picture. This takes me out of the reflection.

Good quality photos and an honest description!! Recently got singed buying a book. Seller didn't mention the tear on the back cover and the photos were not good.

Great tips as always Regie. You almost need a PG-13 on this video with those Thundercats screaming sexy on that faux fur!

I make minimum 1 photo of the comic on top of a a black sheet of paper so buyers can see the borders clearly

Yes, that fur was a good one for the thunder cats. Lol. I do the same, carpet and white poster board back drop with lots of pictures. Lots of good tips Regie, thx for the information 👍

Good advice, this has always been a challenge for me!

Excellent advice, and that's how I usually take my photos. My only problem that I can't seem to solve is when the comic inside the slab is black or at least very dark. It seems to turn the plastic into a mirror and I have a Hell of a time with that.

I'm going to get a piece of black poster board, cut a little hole for my lens, and take the photo through the hole. That should get rid of that mirror-effect from a black cover. You'll know if this works if you see it on my Instagram. 🤣

And that - indeed - is how it's done!
Nice work, Regie.
