It's harvest time in Napa Valley. Perfectly ripe for our Always On torture test with the Nokia Lumia 1020. Can it survive grape juice?

I'm unsubscribing from CNET because of this video, why not do a video with substance and some real life examples rather than submerging a non waterproof phone in liquid, twice, then powering it on against your own known wisdom, then trying to power it on without knowing where the power button is. (not that it would have made a difference!).

I never crush my phone in grapes anyway.

Watching these recent torture tests I have to say, I prefer when the old tests were 'fair'. All tests now are different which makes it impossible to compare devices. they need to be structured with tests for heat water and drops. Perhaps cnet could create a wild card test after the results of the previous test are in. Like if you agree!

What a load of crap. In ur S3 torture test you dropped it carefully on slippery tiles but u drop the 1020 on hard rocky And still its not on ur top 5???

Looks like Samsung has done it marketing very well.

I drop my phone from about 40-50 cm and it fell on its corner and broke the glass. Thank god I have an insurance

water coming into the inside of the phone with the battery on can short-circuit the motherboard and damaged the entire phone. but the torture that you made on the drop and crushing it under your feet did nothing but mere damage onto it. I still believe that Nokia is the toughest out there.

now what she SHOULD have done is held vol down, power and camera buttons for 10 seconds then release the camera button and hold the other 2 until vibration.. This sends the phone into master reset, which is longer but keeps everything on the device.. 9/10 times it works and works really well if you have one of these (like I for example) and gets stuck in a power loop.. Which is a common fault but I guarantee you all that device is NOT dead, I've put mine through its paces and damn like she said "built like a tank"

This is like the lamest torture vid ever... First of all if you're going to put a phone that isn't waterproof in water or juice its most likely not going to survive. Second, if u drop it after u put it in water u wouldn't know if the damage comes from the water or the drop...

You need to flash the phone and It will come back to life. The blinking and saying the battery is dead even after charging is exactly what my 920 did after resetting it. Once I flashed the rom, the phone is like new.

Still, I'm impressed by the knocks this thing took.

By the way Cnet, who ever claimed the Nokia 1020 was waterproof? Come on.

Well, Nokia never said the 1020 is waterproof so that was expected

I really wish CNET on Cars was a separate channel, cause that's the only interesting part of this channel.
