🤔 My proposed mitigations: For Communication Safety, block instead of notify. For Image Detection, move hash-matching from on-device to a separate relay server like Private Relay. What do you think?

“If you don’t do anything wrong, you don’t have to worry” is what I’d expect from a dictatorship, not Apple.

Phenomenal video Rene. I think you covered every aspect and offered a possible solution for your concern. Thank you for your work.

Steve Jobs: "Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for, in plain English, and repeatedly. That’s what it means. I’m an optimist, I believe people are smart. And some people want to share more data than other people do. Ask them. Ask them every time. Make them tell you to stop asking them if they get tired of your asking them. Let them know precisely what you’re going to do with their data. That’s what we think." Today, Apple no longer thinks this. They have not asked my opinion. Apple have officially crossed over to the dark side, with Google and Facebook. It is NOT Apple's job to implement invastive child safety dragnets on its customers without consent. It is a violation of privacy. Good night, Apple. It was nice knowing you.

A lot of ABUSE of power comes from good intentions. I feel if they want to scan my phone, they need a search warrant. I don't have a problem sending a notification to a parent when an image is opened on a child's device. Many children are abused by their own parents. We can't always count on them protecting their kids either.

21:42 when Apple’s CEO; Tim Cook is a homosexual, yet they listened to the Russian government to remove emojis that portray homosexuality… how do you expect them to not do the same this time?

Most sober, in-depth breakdown I’ve yet seen on this subject. Thank you, Rene, for being so thorough.

Actually, this is not hard.
There is no “security” worth giving up your FREEDOM for.

Three simple questions:
#1 Who reviews the manual reviewers? And who reviews those reviewers?
#2 What might motivate someone to become one of the reviewers mentioned in #1?

What saddens me is because Apple has been advertising privacy for so many years, people now have a false sense of privacy while using Apple products. For example you would expect your files be encrypted in the cloud, because its obviously Apple, but thats not the case. And now photo scans...

What can I say, I'm simply disappointed.

This does not need to exist. Privacy is privacy and one’s cell phone can have absolutely anything you want as media. This is not going to stop child predation ever.

IOS 15 security is on point but for the user “There’s one more thing”…um, we failed to mention…….

Apple just announced that they will be expanding this system to 3rd party apps as well so you can’t just turn off iCloud Photos and be safe.

Between FPT's video and this (and HOLY TIME-STAMPS, Batman!) I feel very well informed and I actually understand what the heck is going on. This is an example of why René is a trusted source and one of the best in the tech community.

so can someone help me, does this mean that they can scan your old photos or will they only start doing this for the new photos after the update?

When the inevitable false flags happen and Apple employee goes through my photos to verify. When did I get the dialog for "This person wants to access your photos". Isn't an Apple employee looking at that picture to verify a violation of privacy in itself?

Very good detailed explanation. Child abuse today, what tomorrow?!?! Once the box is opened good luck trying to close it.

When the news broke I thought “I’ll wait for Rene’s video because it will give me the best information”. I was correct.
