In the comic thing at the end of the dlc you can hear chef saltbaker in the background say that he should not have let all of the power go to his head, so I think that after a while he got mad after realizing the wondertart's power

This would explain why he was so easily redeemed: because he never chose evil of his own volition to begin with. Also, look at his irises when he goes psycho mode. There YELLOW, like the Devil’s eyes.

I enterpreted it as the devil being cursed to be evil, hence the angel and demon looking like him. Idrk how the angel plays in your explanation or why it says it's a curse but I'm exited to find out

A little thing in the mini-map that would make sense. If I'm not mistaken the secret path roughly leads from Chef Saltbaker's bakery to the graveyard. This could be Chef Saltbaker's secret tunnel to where the devil is to manipulate him into gaining powers over the astral plane. The devil could have partial control over this which is why he can appear in the secret boss fight as the red devil and skeleton but need Saltbaker's help to gain full control so the devil can get his revenge.

Chef salt baker was honestly one of the creepiest bosses in a game I've seen and if you didn't have the constant the constant threat of running away from the bullet hell i think more people would see this

Pretty sure the angel devil fight is canonically a dream. Cuz to start it you "take a nap" and the achievement for beating it says you survived the nightmare. Still love this theory though!

I love this DLC and the lore that comes into this game. Tbh, I'm curious about how Salt Baker got to know the recipe of the Wondertart. In his lyrics of the epilogue, he says it's better to bake in heaven than to cook in hell.

Maybe at one point he used to bake/cook for the Devil. After all, Casinos do serve food and drinks. So maybe in a way, he became the Devil's left hand man so to speak. King Dice's eyes went from black to green in the boss battle.

Same thing with Chef Salt Baker, black in the beginning and turned yellow in the boss battle. So in someway, if something were to happen to his boss he maybe ordered to bring him back. Instead, he wanted the power to himself and have the taste of power his former boss had.

This theory has one problem, the devil doesn’t die after you beat him he is just injured as the end book shows.

This theory doesn't line up for 2 reasons
1. He says that The Devil discarded his skeleton but he has a cast in the ending credits meaning he still had his skeleton because he has the cast which would only be used for a Broken Bone
2. He uses the Angel & Devil boss to back up this theory saying that The Devil was residing in the Astral Plane to collect souls. The name of the Angel & Devil boss fight is "One Hell Of a Dream" and the achievement description for beating the boss is "Survive the Nightmare" or something similar to that.

I think Saltbaker became evil because the wondertarts recipe may be cursed or something and it corrupted him granting also these abilities he used in his boss fight

hmm, i prefer the idea of saltbaker being good, and its supported by the cheifs coda at the end, but i never considered he might have been influenced. But the devil isnt dead. We see him alive after cuphead and mugman beat him, albiet heavily very wounded after the fight

The only problem with this theory is that in the end cutscenes after defeating the devil it shows he isn’t dead but rather just beat up, thus showing he isn’t in the astral plane at all. But Saltbaker is still probably being influenced by a mischievous spirit form the astral plane.

The second half of “A Chef’s Coda” always seemed vaguely suspicious and foreboding to me. Specifically the line _“It’s better to bake in Heaven/Than to cook in Hell.”_ Seems odd to make mention of this considering all we got of either was the secret graveyard boss. Makes me wonder if the Devil really did have more to do with the situation than it appeared.
Or I could just be projecting because I want more Devil. I will openly admit to this.

Speaking of the graveyard boss, I think the Cursed/Divine Relic would be a good discussion topic. Its origins, how it broke, how did Porkrind get ahold of it — man, the further I go down this rabbit hole, _Cuphead_ lore just seems weirder and weirder. And coming from a _Kirby_ fan, that’s saying something. ☕️

I love the fact that the finishing line was the angel and devil's death quote

You can play the DLC before beating the Devil, so the fact that the secret fight is his hidden last plan, doesn't make sense.

Also, relating to the secret fight: it was actually planned as a phase for the Devil, but was scrapped and then re-added as a secret fight in the DLC!

I figured that Chef Saltbaker became corrupted as a result of messing with forces beyond his comprehension.

The secret boss fight is cuphead's dream and that skeleton is not devils, the devil was defeated, not killed

what if the devil also has an angel form, but we never see it because we’re always looing at him and it’s shown the one you look at is the devil no matter what.

I believe that Saltbaker may have been a contract hunter similar to the brothers, but unlike the brothers, he decided to use the contracts for himself to gain control over the damned.
