Join us as we spend 2 days exploring York, England - often named as one of the most beautiful cities in the UK.
Day 1 begins at the iconic Betty's Cafe Tea Rooms for a delicious Yorkshire Cream Tea before we take to York City Walls for a walk around the city that offers some incredible views of York Minster. Our next stop is Clifford's Tower and we climb to the top to experience the new rooftop deck. Although the views from the city walls are good, the views from the top of the tower are incredible! York has to be one of the best walking cities in the UK so we spend the day making the most of the good weather, just exploring the city walls, parks and narrow passageways that make York such a special place.
Day 2 begins at Gatehouse Coffee, probably the quirkiest coffee shop we have ever visited and located inside one of the original gatehouses along the city walls (the coffee is pretty decent too). Despite the weather, we take a walk along The Shambles, supposedly the inspiration for Saigon Alley in Harry Potter, and visit some of the quirky independent shops. We also visit the Cat Gallery to buy a lucky York cat - you can also start the York Cat Trail from here. With the weather clearing we opt to take a cruise on the River Ouse with City Cruises, a 45 minute tour with live commentary and a great way to relax given all the walking we had already done. When lunch time arrived there was only one place on our minds and that was the Yorkshire Roast Co. to try a famous Yorkshire pudding wrap! We end our time in York with a visit to the grave of Dick Turpin the famous highwayman and buy ourselves the biggest meringue we have ever seen from The Shambles Market.
