The mad scientists at Corvette say they designed it to have both the soul of a Ferrari 458 and the clinical speed of a Porsche GT2 RS. An extremely bold claim.

I love the way this engine sounds. It has all the soul of a flat-plane engine while still retaining some of that LS "shriek". The fact that an NA 5.5L V8 makes 670 hp is insane.

The reason for the punchy torque across the whole rev range is the magic they're working with the intake. They can selectively open and close valves that allow them to modify the amount of torque the engine makes at a given time, so they find the right combinations for each rpm and switch between them as the engine revs up and down.
