Why doesn't God perform supernatural miracles now as He did in the past? Rabbi Tovia Singer responds

I have seen lots of miracles in my life, and I still have free will. God can do amazing things! Like performing miracles in your life and still leave you with free will.

I once knew a Pentecostal preacher woman that was 87 years old. She was the mother of my close friend and at that age, she couldn't attend church anymore and was a shut-in. When I first met her, we instantly clicked. I loved her like she was my own mother. So, my husband and I started visiting her on a weekly basis and it quickly became our custom to read the Bible together, each person taking turns. She had no interest in starting from the beginning so we started in Mathew. She, being once a firey Pentecostal preacher, would take the opportunity to teach us her interpretation of each verse. By the time we started getting close to Paul's letters, during the prayer, she started throwing in a few nonsensical words out (I guess to test our reaction). Within a few weeks she started getting a little louder and she started tossing out even more babbling words. Then, I heard it plain as day....SHAM-A-LAM-A! I about died trying to hold back my laughter. But still, I figured I would give her the benefit of doubt so when I got home I searched the internet for what the word Shama Lama actually might mean in another language. I came up with absolutely nothing so I asked others what they thought it might mean. Nothing rang a bell.

The great thing that came from this experience was this, by the time we got to the passages about speaking in tongues, she (aka momma) was insisting that I believe in it and she wanted me to start doing it. She called it "an annointing of the Holy Spirit". So, I told her that I would study it and would let her know what I learned the following week. I spent every waking hour researching the topic. By doing this intense study, I learned that Paul was a chamilion, a charlatan...I liar! It didn't take long for me and my husband to walk away from church and discover the Elohim of Yisrael. When I presented my report to momma, at first she said "well that would make all his writings trash!". I agreed with her... and then, a change came over her face. I had never seen that look from her ever then she said "child, the devil got to you".

We tried to continue to visit her a couple times after that but she was cold and really didn't want to have anything to do with us anymore. It broke my heart because I really loved her dearly. Within a little over a year, she passed. Just before she passed, her daughter did let us visit her to say goodbye. I was able to tell her that I loved her and and we said our goodbyes. She wasn't responding by that stage and she passed within hours after our last visit.

Since then, we've lost all our family and Christian friends excluding one daughter.. ALL 15 grandchildren are not allowed to speak to us. This has been the greatest test in our lives. I can't do anything to change their hearts or even teach them the truth. They won't listen. I've been called crazy, a heritic, a blasphemer and told that I'm going to burn in hell for eternity. I've had the most vile things spewed at me. I didn't even know that my adult children could even think to talk to me the way they have. I forgive them of course because I know in their minds, they're trying to wake me up. Oh boy am I awake and with eyes wide open too!

Is all I can do is trust that the Elohim of Yisrael has got this. I pray for my children because I will always love them but, nothing in this life can take me away from serving my Creator and holding onto the promises within his covenant. His Torah and Witness is life.

I'm a little bit confused. Are you distinguishing between miracles that are immediate and seen, vs answers to prayers, that were highly unlikely and seem to defy the physical, and our expectation?

Many, many years ago, a friend encouraged me to visit her church. Reluctantly, I did so. These folks starting chanting gibberish and jumping and falling over the place. I ran out that door as if I was on fire. I was terrified.

The rabbi is right, people who witnessed a miracle get extremely impacted by the event.

Free will is not a problem either. God will ALWAYS have a remnant on earth that are more than willing and ready to do God's will under ANY circumstances.
Also there are people who already have faith and praying to God for a miracle but they don't get one for other reasons, definitely not because of absence of faith.
