NICK GILDER Hot Child In The City FULL VERSION

40 years to the day that Nick Gilder's 'Hot Child In The City' began its chart run in Australia; spending more than 5 months selling copies but only making #18 nationally; but Top 10 in Sydney; and of course #1 in America and Canada. It also made #3 in New Zealand. Nick was unable to find further solo success but this track is very 1978! This version is the previously unheard one by me, anyway; featuring a further 30 seconds beyond the one that radio would play. I've re-edited an appearance on Top Of The Pops and laid the alternate audio to it. A great retro recording.

Thank you for posting this. It's funny you say this is a version you had not heard. I grew up in Los Angeles, and this was the only version I ever knew! I was disappointed to hear it cropped short for whatever reason recording companies do. I cannot seem to find this version anywhere, in fact I was beginning to think I had imagined it!!!! Again, thank you for the great memories.

My best friend and I lived this. Nearly got killed too. Among other things. 15 years old. SMH I doubt this song would work these days. But you never know. We had no supervision to speak of. Thanking God for getting us out of scary situations. And Lorna Lee aka Charlie, if you ever find this, thank you for getting help those two times. At the time, of course, I didn't realize how ahead of its time this great old tune is. Mike Chapman had a knack for producing hits which heralded the eighties with their sound and style. Whether it was intentional on his part or not, he definitely helped topple disco down from its chokehold on pop music. In that respect, The Knack's "My Sharona" was his crowning achievement.
