Hi, what Voigtlander 35 did you use ? some of the photos look out of focus (or maybe motion blur). Personally I use Leica M for film and Fuji X for digital (I tried for weeks a M9 - but I was not convinced to make the switch from Fuji ) Cheers

Fuji’s auto white balance + JPEG is unparalleled.

I often add a white balance shift to the auto white balance of my Fuji cameras. +2 R, -2 B. It adds a bit of warmth which I enjoy.

Great comparison video. My opinion on X100V vs Leica M240; The X100V is the winner in color jpg:s, but the M240 wins the B&W race. I had a X100V beside my M240 for half a year, but finally sold it, and kept the M240. Why? The short answer is the shooting-experience. The Leica gives me much more when it comes to the whole process of taking the picture - and this process is why I love photography. I am not so much in it for the picture in it self. If I was, I would go for the X100V. That little camera is sooo fantastic in so many ways...

Good job and fully agree your results. That’s why I keep my m240 and xpro1.

nice comparison!! why is the leica so soft (like 4:02) on lots of these shots, were you shooting manual on each? The fujifilm seems tack sharp in all of them.

Like your video, but as a former Leica owner and now happy Fujifilm X-Pro 2 owner, I can tell you a little secret... not anymore now, but if you want to replicate Leica colors on a Fuji camera you should choose the Pro Neg hi/std simulation (falls in the Leica colorspectrum) and then set the white balance on day with R+3 or4 and the B -3 or -4 depending of how much sun light there is. With this you get your Leica colors with the option to tune them as you like with the white balance settings.

Hope you can test this in future and keep on your videos!

I used to love Fujifilm cameras. I had a fuji X-M1 and still own a fuji X100. I also own a Ricoh Gr3 which in my opinion offers a fantastic image quality in a small compact body. After many years of wait last year I finally purchased my first Leica camera, a used Leica CL digital camera and I was absolutely blown away by the image quality. It is outstanding. It is the best camera I have tried or owned so far. In terms of image quality the quirky Sigma DP2 quattro is even better than the Leica, but it is way less versatile and much less enjoyable to use. The problem with many Sigma cameras with a Foveon sensor is that photos look good at low ISO only, normally 100 & 200 ISO. At 400 ISO the noise is already clearly noticeable. If the Foveon sensor was a bit more versatile, it would be the best sensor for image quality.

Mastering Fujifilm's simulations more or less makes you a JPEG Picasso. Art out of the box, erm I mean camera.

It’s a fun comparison and interesting to see but are you missing the point a bit? I thought the whole thing of Digital Leicas was the lens? That’s what gives the character isn’t it? The actual body is secondary. It’s just a vehicle for the lens, albeit a beautiful one. Wouldn’t It make more sense to use a Leica lens? I appreciate they are mind numbingly expensive but if you did this test with a borrowed one if you haven’t got one, it would make for a very interesting vid in my opinion. Keep up the good work though, love your other stuff.

I didn't catch if you used the Fuji at the standard setting or a film option? Fuji for me and as said a tweak of the WB can add a fraction of warmth. Also Fuji for value for money. You can get the 2010 model year Leica and this lens on the used market for a bit less than twice the new price of the Fuji. I'd prefer new, technology has moved on a lot in 12 years.

Nice comparison, any chance you could upload some of the shots to a Dropbox to check full res as its hard to see with youtube compression. Im trying to decide between a 262 or xe4 and would appreciate any help

I own a film Leica (iiig) so can't compare, but I do have a Fuji X-Pro2 and nearly always used the Acros+yellow filter or sometimes red filter preset. The great thing about the Fuji is I fit my screw mount LTM lenses to it so I can have the 'Leica Look' along with Fuji Acros on digital. Currently own a Summar 5cm f2 (very vintage look), a 5cm Elmar f2.8 (exceedingly sharp stopped down, and nice bokeh opened up and a 9cm Elmar f4 for portraits.

Thanx for the comparison. I don’t know if I could say when shown prints which Foto was taken with which camera. I had the Fuji xpro 1 and E 1-3 but never liked their ergonomics and the kind of technical cleanliness of the photos.
As I use and used analog Leicas with Leica lenses as well I tended to shoot more and more analog and less and less with the fujis… so I sold them and never regretted the decision. Nowadays I mostly shoot analog with Leicas and Hasselblad with their respective lenses. The outcomes are marvellous. For digital I use Nikon cameras, and I like the sensor of the D3 or D700 still much more then all the others. These days I am looking for a decent Leica m 240 p …
Always good light!

I have a X-S10 and a M262. The Fuji is a very good tool. Point and shoot. Everything will be good with AF and IBIS. But the Leica is a fun-oriented camera. Take your time, focus yourself, enjoy the sound of the shutter. You may not be an artist, but you're an artisan. And it's much more rewarding.

In fact, I was surprised to see this comparison and how Fuji is remarkably closely competes with the legendary Leica. I honestly likes the Fuji more. Well done.

My big issue with Leica digital cameras is the cost to technology ratio... A Leica digital M, is a hugely over priced camera.. sure it has unparalleled build quality, but the tech just does not keep up, with such a price tag.. Just look at the M9's that have sensors fail after only a few years.. Going back to film days I can see that the expense could be justified.. a Leica M3, M6 or whatever would last a life time...like a Swiss watch.. Pick one up today and a 50 or 60 year old camera will give you wonderful results... Can't see and M240 lasting 50 years...
So then we come to Fuji.. Not cheap cameras, but affordable, especially used (I never buy new cameras.. ever). Images, as your video shows, are virtually indistinguishable especially with a few tweaks in Photoshop. Also the tech incorporated in the camera is way behind Fuji.. No AF, poorer colour balance, inferior low light, slower usage in virtually every way and destined to become obsolete in only a handful of years...So why would anyone buy a digital Leica?

Nice comparison review. I have the Fuji V and both the SL2S and Q2. Fuji film emulations are incredible and the greens all Fuji. I agree the Leicas are a little warmer and I prefer that. Now, Leica has full jpg adjustments but I have not played with them as they are fairly new cameras to me. I have not seen any videos on Leica jpgs adjustments…if any out there I would like to know. The Leica settings of Standard, Vivid and Natural don’t have much difference in their default (factory) settings and find them a bit too flat. I’m certain you can do better with some minor adjustments in settings…something I need to try. On the other hand Fuji’s settings as factory default are much intense showing noticeable difference. Be safe, Cheers.

Enjoyed this comparison, but would have rather seen you use a x-pro 3 with an adapter and the same voightlander (or any other M lens). Fuji does make good lenses but you're comparing sensors.
