I got to tour the White House when I was in 8th grade in the early 80s. While standing in line waiting for our turn to take the tour, one of the grounds keepers asked us if we wanted to see the president. He pointed and said that he was about to take off in a helicopter towards the house. A couple of min. later, the helicopter took off, circled the line, and then President Reagan leaned out a bit and waved to us. It was really cool.

I graduated from the Corcoran College of Art & Design, which is directly across from the Ellipse and the White House.
It was common for Secret Service cars to park right outside the school entrance.
We'd see agents also getting coffee at the nearby famous Swing's Coffee shop.
I didn't know about the SAM setup on the roof of the New Executive Building, but doesn't surprise me.
Around the Ellipse were many agents dressed in civilian clothing, but they were carrying duffle bags which had machine guns or whatever inside. It was very obvious they were guarding the area. I mean who else just stands around in the grass with sunglasses on holding a duffle bag for hours on end.
George W. Bush was President at the time so I saw his motorcade come and go from the west-side entrance gate countless times.
I've always wanted to take a tour inside the White House.
The general area itself is very nice and a nice place to take a stroll around or even jog around at night.
I feel lucky to have been able to go to school so close to the home of many Presidents and their families. The area is rich with history!

I got married in October, 1975 and on our way home from Myrtle Beach, we stopped in Georgetown for a night and ran around Washington for a day. We saw the Lincoln memorial, Arlington cemetery and a few of the Smithsonian buildings. We drove past the White House and saw a small line forming so we parked and joined the group. I can’t remember which rooms we saw but we were in the WH! I think Ford was home so we didn’t see the Oval. That was an amazing day and one that could never be replicated today.

I managed some villas when I lived in the Caribbean years ago. For a few years in a row, the Clinton's stayed in one of them. (Please, no nasty comments or politics. I'm just telling a story). Despite no longer being president, the secret service was nuts! They came out several says in advance and did a serious search of the house, grounds and neighborhood. Hillary wanted to go for a walk on the beach one morning and despite it being a fairly private beach, they said no way in hell. Too dangerous. Funny thing is, we spent a bit of time with the secret service guys and they were all super chill. Khakis and golf shirts while on duty. I even got to meet Bill (Hillary had already left). Cool experience to see how it works!

I was in the US Navy for 10 years. In that time I encountered a lot of service personnel who could be or could have been in a White House security force. They are serious about it!

I got a good laugh when you state in the video that the president’s helicopter is “impossible to shoot down”. After spending a few years in the United States Army Air Defense, I can personally guarantee you that NOTHING is impossible to shoot down.
Our motto: “If it flies - It dies!” 🚁

Every 4 or 8 years, someone new gets voted into the White House. There are literally millions of angry people every time there's a new President. Could you imagine if they didn't have all that security? I shudder to think about what would be attempted if the security wasn't so high.

Back in 2010 I was walking around the Capitol Building and saw a uniformed USSS officer standing behind crowd control barricades carrying an MP5. So I kidded him, "Bet you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that thing." He smiled and just said, "Maybe." You see tons of USSS officers and cars around, but it's the ones you DON'T see milling about as "tourists" that are really keeping an eye on you.

4:35 I have to say, being a President's personal sniper sounds like the most metal (albeit nerve-racking) job out there

Those robot dogs are disturbing. Can you imagine just chilling at home and that things rolls up on you?

Wow, we've come a long way. Before the Civil War people would have picnics on the White House Lawn, and they could just walk in and talk to the president.

Now imagine somehow getting a hard drug in there. Specifically, an area closed to the public. It'd probably be pretty hard for a random visitor to do.

The Secret Service was a too notch organization....until recent events seems to indicate their standards have really been lowered.

12 minutes is actually incredibly slow for the fighter jets to intercept an aircraft, especially when they're stationed within the 33 mile exclusion zone. Flying time should be around 30 seconds at Mach 1 to intercept. Did it take them 10 mins to get ready before running out to the planes? 😂

You forgot to mention, about Marine one. They travel in threes playing an airborne shell game as another level to security.

Somewhere around 2009, my son, grandson and i were along the reflecting pool about halfway between Lincoln and Washington memorial when a helicopter with soldiers fully armed, flew over pretty darn close. Within a few minutes, we had made it to the korean war memorial when another helo flew over. Only caught a glimpse, but my son and i affirmed it was Marine 1. So i know for fact that back then they did a little trial run out to Quantico prior to M1 taking off.

In November 1989 I was on holiday in the US from the UK, and it was just a couple of days after the Berlin Wall fell. I just rocked up for the free White House tour and really enjoyed it. There was little security and a kind of party atmosphere, probably due to the impending end of the Cold War. I tried again in 2011 but was told that only US citizens are allowed to tour now.

Man, this was so cool to watch! It makes me feel proud of our country to know how much they (our government) value the Commander and Chief. USA 🇺🇸 ALL THE WAY!!!
